I was accepted to UCLA!!!
Major: Physics
GPA: 3.35
major GPA: 3.8
I can’t believe I was accepted with such a low GPA. I think my major GPA, trend of grades, and personal statement did it for me!
Guys, I feel super excited, yet a little intimidated. Anyone else feel this way?
Yes, I do.
There really isn’t anything to be worried about. You got into UCLA because you earned it. Don’t worry about feeling intimidated, there really isn’t anything to it. The quarter system is quite different than the semester but you will adjust midway through the winter quarter, at least I did. Its Spring now, and I feel good about it. You will have long days though and limited sleep when mid-terms and finals roll around. Back in the CC days, I would turn in my papers days ahead of finals and twiddle my thumbs around, this won’t happen at UCLA. But, spend your time wisely, your professors will know how much work you put into your work, if they see you’ve done your part, you will get the grade that you believe you deserve. Congrats and welcome to the Bruin family.
@mALZAHAR Don’t worry about that GPA of 3.2, as long as you stay above 2.0, there isn’t anything to worry about. That 3.2 is what UCLA basically uses as a cutoff for their requirement for anybody that is applying. Even after that(Below 2.0), you are still given a chance with academic probation. I know students who came with 3.7, who basically only care about getting their bachelors and leaving, are getting C’s, and are still in good standing. UCLA has something like a 90-93% graduation rate, so put it this way, you go to class, do your work, study for exams, you’ll be fine.
@lcj1994 :D/
@ P.S. I hope you got it figured out… :-S
@princessluna @luckie1367 thank you, I will go to UCLA but I was just curious.
@Tik1127 Tik, can I ask you one thing? so I’m taking only one class this semester, it’s a science class, which is my only missing class to complete IGETC, and not a major pre-req, My current grade is between A- and B-+, however I guess I’m going to get B or C eventually, in this case, getting a C in my last semester will change my admission? I’m worried about it because I already have two Cs, and I heard that I must finish my last semester with at least 3.0? (not overall, just a semester) in that casemy semester GPA will be 2.0 because I’m taking only one class and getting a C.
I am in the same situation as @wlasm15 I am also only taking one class to complete my igetc this semester and I hope they don’t take away my admission if I get a C
If its not a major pre-req, I wouldn’t worry too much. My last semester at a CC, I basically took Stats And French 2, I just coasted and got B’s(Could’ve gotten A’s if I applied myself but I was pretty much over it) and these were 4 unit courses. UCLA will care about if you passed the class(especially a non-pre requ) and completed.
@Tik1127 Thank you, so I guess as long as I pass the class it’s not going to be big problem…
@Tik1127 I’m Taking exactly that French 2 and Stats 1, and those are my last IGETC classes before I transfer but my french is 5 units and stats is 3, I’m maintianing an A in french and B in stats
This question has probably been answered, but does our GPA carry over or do we basically “start over”?
Your GPA does not roll over, you start anew. Your GPA from CC only comes back when and if you want to attend grad school.
@springtree
It’s virtually impossible to switch to engineering or computer science at UCLA. You can switch to nonimpacted majors at UCLA’s College of Letters and Science, though, for the most part.
@Tik1127 Thank you!
Tik1127- thanks a lot for your answers. Really helpful.
Hey guys. First time poster but also very worried. I am admitted to UCLA for the College of Letter’s of Sciences. This semester at my CC, I planned to take 15 credits, fulfilling the minimum 60 credits to apply and admit for UC’s. I ended up dropping a class, Chem, of 5 credits. I’m extremely worried that if I report this change (of course I will), my admittance will be rescinded. I’m not worried about not having a full 60 credits, because I still have AP exams that will transfer over to fulfill the 60 credits. What are my chances of getting rescinded?
If you don’t have 60 units by the end of spring semester, you will be rescinded.
My application is under review. I was wondering if anybody knew when I might be able to hear back?
