@fullload, I’m just guessing, but I think for younger students, they want the college experience. My daughter only gets two years, but it’s better than nothing. Your college years are memories for life. I loved mine. I think one year is more enticing to non-trads.
^Good point
@universalsnip is that program just for certain majors?
@lindyk8 , excellent point, indeed, I’m thinking like an old man who just want to get this over with! lol.
Hey @History2Law , there’s nothing stopping students from applying to grad school this year, for next fall admissions. I’m actually starting the law school application process this year, for next fall admissions.
@lindyk8 yeah it’s by major. It’s possible math is the only one that offers it
thx @universalsnip, I do remember vaguely reading something about that a year ago and as I recall it was limited to certain majors.
@lindyk8 Do you have any sources to actually support your claim?
@fullload have you taken the lsat yet?
@History2Law I’m taking the June lsat. My practice tests are averaging 163, so I’m not worried too much, I can bring it up over the next couple months.
Good luck!
@anikom15, what claim? If you mean uc transferable units, that’s all the UCs ever look at.
@lindyk8 @UniversalSnip I did find this on the UCLA registrar’s office webpage: “Departments in the College of Letters and Science and each school, except the School of Nursing and School of Theater, Film, and Television, may nominate exceptionally promising juniors and seniors as Departmental Scholars to pursue bachelor’s and master’s degree programs simultaneously. Nominations are submitted to the College or school dean for recommendation to the dean of the Graduate Division. Students interested in becoming Departmental Scholars should consult their departments well in advance of application dates for graduate admission.”
I’m in the same situation! Could you check your messages? THANK YOU!!
Just got a regents invitation.
Question. Regarding the recommendation letter: “The letter should be from a teacher, academic advisor, or qualified individual who can address your academic abilities and personal attributes.”
I have a professor who can attest to my academic abilities but not so much my personal attributes while my boss has written a glowing letter re: my personal attributes but not really my academic abilities. Any thoughts?
P.S. My job is in the field of my major. So, my boss’s appraisal would be in the field Public Health and Psychology.
@fullload
I found it nearly impossible to graduate in one year, and apply to start graduate school the next. The main issue for me was that I couldn’t get great letters of recommendation by the time applications were due. Many applications were due in December, but it was only by the end of my first quarter in December that I could even ask for recommendation from UCLA professor.
I personally found that managing 4 classes my first quarter, and trying to do a above average applications for grad school was not very feasible for me. So while I am graduating in just one year, I will be using that gap year to apply to graduate school. Basically I realize that I could not literally do everything, and something had to give.
I had planned to take my last two pre-reqs this summer at my community college, that being Math 1B (second calculus sequence) and CS 2C (third C++ sequence). However, my college recently updated their summer catalog and CS 2C isn’t being offered. I just reported this onto the admissions site, and I’m very worried that this will rescind my acceptance.
Has anyone from previous years experienced anything similar? How did it go?
The site said they’d get back to me in 5-15 business days, and it’s making me so anxious. It’s like I’m going through the entire admissions process again :((
Well in my case, I have a whole bunch of dental school prerequisites I have to take. Those are insanely difficult whenever you take them all at once, especially at a university with as much competition as UCLA. I’m definitely taking my time and won’t mind going for 2 years or so. I’m already worried that my GPA is gonna go down because of how prestigious UCLA is so I need to keep it at 3.5 at the lowest.
Just got regents invite… It’s due with an essay and letter of rec by May 1st. That’s so awesome: you get a WHOLE 9 DAYS to obtain a letter of rec… Honestly?
@Sustenance Seriously! I contacted my professor right away and when she asked when it was due, I realized it was only nine days away and felt so embarrassed to request one on such short notice.
