I had planned to take my last two pre-reqs this summer at my community college, that being Math 1B (second calculus sequence) and CS 2C (third C++ sequence). However, my college recently updated their summer catalog and CS 2C isn’t being offered. I just reported this onto the admissions site, and I’m very worried that this will rescind my acceptance.
Has anyone from previous years experienced anything similar? How did it go?
The site said they’d get back to me in 5-15 business days, and it’s making me so anxious. It’s like I’m going through the entire admissions process again :((
In case anyone is wondering, my sister transferred to UCLA and lived in one of the transfer dorms and told me that they are almost all triples. They have 1 bunk bed and 1 loft bed with a desk underneath it. I’ve seen the rooms and they are pretty tiny and there’s 1 bathroom/shower shared between two rooms (for 6 people). There could be multiple dorms with a different set up but that’s how hers was
Forgot to say this, but I submitted my SIR yesterday! Currently filling out the housing app, so thank you, @i20hndc.
Did anyone else get the Academic Advancement Program (AAP) Transfer Scholars invite?
“The Academic Advancement Program—the nation’s largest university-based diversity program—develops academic, political, scientific, economic, and community leaders from students in groups that historically have been underrepresented in higher education. At AAP Transfer Scholars’ Day, you will learn about UCLA’s exceptional academic programs and the resources within AAP that are designed to help you succeed at UCLA and prepare you to enter a graduate or professional school or the workforce after graduation.”
I’m not sure what the event is about or if I should even RSVP (it is on May 9th). I’m a Hispanic female, but I’ve never considered myself “underrepresented” haha, so I feel a little bit weird about this.
AAP is great. You’ll get easier access to academic counselors, special events, workshops, etc. You also get access to free Peer Learning.
@cinemamedia I got it too! I’m attending. I’m going to be there for Raza Day on the 8th and plan to come back for Bruin Day and I feel like going to all the tours and seminars is a great way to feel comfortable and in tune with the school and get as much information in so little time! I’m Hispanic and I don’t consider myself underrepresented but I still think it will be a fun experience!
The AAP thing is right in middle of a ucla extension class, so I cant make it. Hopefully i can still join and receive the benefits, sounds geat.
Does every admitted student receive an email regarding applying for the alumni scholarship?
@Mbarca92 no only GPA 3.75+ do I believe
I’ll be going to the AAP thing as well … free food…
@luckie1367 Oh okay I got an invite and my gpa is above 3.75. Thanks for answering my question!
@luckie1367, I believe there is an element of financial need tied into it. Some alumni scholarships at various UCs are tied directly into financial aid office and handled there. My dear relative applied to all the UCs last year with a 4.0 and did not get any alumni scholarship invites, except one, can’t recall which UC. As she did not attend last year, she reapplied this year (accepted to UCLA) and did not get an invite. Same with Regents.
She also does not have financial aid.
There are other 4.0s not getting invited either.
My bad, I just assumed it was a merit scholarship, thanks @lindyk8!
@Mbarca92, please see lindy’s above post
@luckie1367, Re Regents, last year I looked at one of the sites, UCLA or UCB, can’t remember and what it actually says is something like: initial pass based on merit (I.e., 3.9 or above, etc), then it says from that pool they apply various criteria, and need/hardship is one, and so is leadership, among others.
So my interpretation for Regents is they slightly mislead: it is based on merit, but then filtered from there. Not everyone has need in Regents, but it can be a factor. I have also seen lower than 4.0s get regents or invited.
Re alumni, I have several friends who ran the local UCB alumni group and say the finalists always have need/hardship. They feel that’s the filtering criteria. And all the alumni essays I read have that same factor. And then some, like Riverside and Merced, maybe others, are run out of the financial aid office.
Ucla – My daughter started a non-profit this year and they still didn’t invite her.
Mine was pending since friday and i just got waitlisted
Major:Math/Econ, GPA:3.63
Does anyone know how many people get accepted from the waitlist?
@lindyk8 @Cayton
Ucla just started waitlist last year, so there isn’t much historical data. Last year 25 got in from waitlist. I don’t know how many were actually waitlisted.
I’m wondering why more transfers are not attempting to graduate in one year at ucla? If 180 is the graduation number of units needed and most are at 100-110 coming in, then you’d only need about 15 (or so) units per the next 5 quarters (including this summer) to graduate by next Spring.
Let me know if you’re planning that route (I am) or if not, why you’re going to spread it out over two years. Is it because you’re double majoring, or maybe minoring? Just curious, thanks guys.
I’m spreading it out over two years since I don’t really want to take multiple 15 unit quarters. I’d rather do 2 years of 12 unit quarters for my own sanity.
Personally I’m going to be looking into the program that gives masters degree credit while enrolled as an undergraduate. I feel like that would be a more effective way to move up my timetable. It has the significant benefit of putting off the horror of grad school applications as well.
Another reason to stay 2 years is because you may need to still apply for grad school.
