Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

@LuckyName, mine does that, too. Are you using Chrome?

I’m using chrome, and I have no problem…

@apocalypso safari

Hi fellow CC people.

On many occasions I’ve heard that it is virtually impossible to switch your major into an impacted major upon admission to UCLA as a transfer. If at all possible, I’d like to ask you all a question/opinion that pertains to this matter.

So I was accepted as an Asian American Studies major; however, upon some retrospection I came to realize that I really want to major in International Development Studies (IDS).

Now, both majors are under the L&S department, with the difference being non-impacted vs impacted.
Miraculously though, I’ve completed all of IDS’s pre-req’s, based on Assist.org.

Seeing that it is virtually impossible (based on numerous posts on here), should I even bother contacting the counselors?

Advice/feedbacks are appreciated. Go Bruins!

@darren808 I’m in a similar situation to you. I think I’m going to go ahead and ask anyways. There’s not harm in doing so, especially if your gpa is close to the average of the major your trying to switch into.

@LuckyName, that’s weird, I’m using Chrome. Out of curiosity, @luckie1367, are you using a PC or a Mac? I’m using a Mac and Chrome has done a number on me, lol.

@apocalypso I’m actually on a chomebook…

Here is what my view looks like

Oops, I guess I can’t link it.

@luckie1367 oh! Maybe that’s it, lol. On my view of myUCLA, you have to scroll to the sides to get the full page. It’s the same page but it’s wider.

Are any of you guys considering taking a Fiat Lux seminar?

@apocalypso so maybe it’s like that on macs then? we’re both using one (even though we’re using different browsers).

Just got a really, really nice call from the New Student people! It made me so excited to attend!!! :x :D/

Hey,does withdrawing from a class would jeopardize my chances of going to UCLA/UC-Reciprocity (I go to UCR)? I really messed up on a midterm in econ and I don’t know if I’ll be able to get my grade up to something acceptable…

@apocalypso
Those are intended for the freshman students at UCLA, I believe.

Still don’t fully understand the financial aid thing. When do we actually accept the financial aide offer, and the loan for that matter? What about the Summer aid, when do they let us know if it’s being rewarded? I need to take that loan, but there’s nowhere to do so. Just getting a little antsy and would like them to clarify this instead of making us guess. If you know the answer, please provide a link so we can actually see it. Thanks guys. :slight_smile:

@fullload my understanding is that Fall aid will be available to accept/decline after the final award is posted. However, idk when that will be…

Summer FA has a separate application which is due April 30. You can find it on my.ucla.

Also with summer aid, be sure not to underestimate the number of units you plan to take. Once you submit the app, you can’t increase the units, and your award is based on the number of units you take. It’s a one shot deal, so don’t mess it up.

Thanks guys, Yeah, I know about the summer application, I filled it out last week. Just trying to find out when I can accept the regular awards for fall, and when I will know if I was rewarded for Summer.

You’ll find out your summer aid sometime in May. From what I remember you should be able to except your financial aid award for the fall now. But they may have changed the system since last year. There’s no benefit to excepting it early, so there’s nothing to really be antsy about. You can also accept grants and scholarships, without accepting loans. You can always accept them later.
