@gdkane I would do them at your community college, since it’s much cheaper.
@LuckyName Right?? I feel like it would make sense for me to take advantage of that. Can’t we transfer 70 units over?
Consider a head start on upper division classes in your major at a UC or CSU.
If you haven’t completed IGETC then by all means go to CC and complete.
So weird. If I understand correctly with the way blue and gold works (I have zero expected contribution and 9k net cost on campus) there’s just no point in my getting scholarships post-transfer. I’d just be donating them to the university. Someone tell me I’m wrong about that? I don’t see why I should even apply for any, the amount of cash I’d have to rake in before any of it starts covering my costs seems absurd.
EDIT: Ok, it looks like they come out of loans first - so if you have x in loans as part of your package, a scholarship that provides y dollars will by converting loans to grants essentially giving you… y dollars? Up to the cap of x.
Also, can someone comment on the financials of on campus vs off campus? This article http://www.movoto.com/blog/market-trends/off-campus-or-on-campus/ seems to indicate that on campus is actually significantly cheaper at UCLA. Do they draw down your financial aid by a lot if you opt to live off campus?
When is IGETC certification due? Is it the June 1 deadline (fall grades transcripts), July 1 deadline (spring grades transcripts), or the Septmber 1 deadline (summer grade transcripts)? Is it a different deadline separate from those three?
I thought IGETC deadline was july 15.
I’ve been at UCLA for almost a year, so if any of you guys plan to attend the school, feel free to ask me any questions you might have about the experience here so far.
Go Bruins!
Yay! Just got my UCLA acceptance packet in the mail! :-j
@LuckyName
UCLA’s acceptance packet is usually pretty fancy. It beats every other UC’s.
I got into UCLA for fall 2015 as a transfer from UCSC (yay!!) I was reading through the contract and it said to notify them if my academic performance has dropped (2 or more C’s, and 'Ds or F’s). Unfortunately, I got a C+ in Statistics for Biological Sciences, and C in my 2nd Organic Chemistry class and I’m worried UCLA will rescind my admission. These are the first C’s I’ve gotten my my college career and it brought my GPA down from a 3.66 to a 3.46 but I am still in good academic standing.
Some clarification as to why I got two C’s:
My ochem professor was really bad; he would talk about lab experiments throughout class and wouldn’t teach us anything. His notes were all over the place too. The average for the midterm was a 25%. We basically had to rely on the textbook to learn the material and went into tests blind because he wouldn’t give us any clue as to how it was formatted or what to focus on. Having to spend most of my time teaching myself ochem, I didn’t have much time to devote to stats, a class I had no formal background in.
Do you think I’ll get rescinded based on my decline in grades?
Got my packet In the mail. Ahhhh it’s so official now
@Cayton what can you tell me about Continental philosophy at UCLA? My friend is a philosophy major who is interested in UCLA, but is concerned with the amount of continental philosophy courses at UCLA.
I called admission about igetc and they said that September 1st IS the deadline for igetc submission but if you have to take summer and your college doesn’t certify on time, it will be fine.they understand
How does IGETC certification work? Ive already been certified by my school, so it says on my transcript from there that I have IGETC certification … do I still need to ask my school to send one to whatever UC I decide on?
Just got an email for the TAP scholarship… Do you guys know if every TAP applicant is awarded one?
Does anyone have a sense of what the financial aid is like for the transfer summer program?
@Cayton thank you for the offer!
@Salmanthgr8 you have to apply, so not everyone is awarded one.
I love my packet :x
Lol if I get the tap scholarship I would essentially be going to UCLA for free
I’m betting Berkeley’s packet this year will be off the chain, @cayton. :))
@lindyk8 It better be.
Those packets last year were decent, but nothing amazing. San Diego’s was pretty good too.
