Hey @Cayton, I actually do have a quick question. Do you remember how long it took to process transcripts/AP scores/final financial aid?
@cayton, I remember San Diego’s. It was excellent with the Triton. UCLA – my daughter got it today. Looks exactly the same as last year, the Go Bruins poster, the yellow translucent folder with the brochure.
I can’t even remember Berkeley’s. But maybe that’s because it was SO SPECTACULAR, it was mind-numbing. (Greatness prefers subtlety, btw.)
@Cayton I got into UCLA for fall 2015 as a transfer from UCSC (yay!!) I was reading through the contract and it said to notify them if my academic performance has dropped (2 or more C’s, and 'Ds or F’s). Unfortunately, I got a C+ in Statistics for Biological Sciences, and C in my 2nd Organic Chemistry class and I’m worried UCLA will rescind my admission. These are the first C’s I’ve gotten my my college career and it brought my GPA down from a 3.66 to a 3.46 but I am still in good academic standing.
Some clarification as to why I got two C’s:
My ochem professor was really bad; he would talk about lab experiments throughout class and wouldn’t teach us anything. His notes were all over the place too. The average for the midterm was a 25%. We basically had to rely on the textbook to learn the material and went into tests blind because he wouldn’t give us any clue as to how it was formatted or what to focus on. Having to spend most of my time teaching myself ochem, I didn’t have much time to devote to stats, a class I had no formal background in.
Do you think I’ll get rescinded based on my decline in grades?
Hey guys, I hate to thread jack! But I would seriously love your guys feed back.
Hi there, I have just received my acceptance letter to UCLA. I am a Spanish Major, but I decided to take Trig this spring semester. I told the office that I would take it and I did. But just yesterday I dropped it because I wanted to put my time and energy into the three other classes that I’m taking. (which I NEED to transfer) The classes are Bio, Astronomy, and Spanish 12. I’m going to pass the classes, no problem. This Trig is not needed to fulfill the math requirement, unit transfer requirement (I have 108 units) or needed for my major prep. I already let the office know, but it says I have to wait 15 days and I’m dying of anxiety. I was rescinded my senior year to UCI because I slacked in spring and got a horrible GPA. I just want to know if I’ll get rescinded. I don’t know if i’m over thinking it. Maybe they think I’m lazy or whatever. I told them exactly what I just posted here. Thanks in advance.
@erickhaven its generally less than 15 days. IMHO, you should be fine since it is not your first math, preventing you from 60 units, or a major pre req.
Got my package in the mail as well! Super swanky.
@apocalypso ahh i cant wait to get mine! where do u live
@myneighbortotoro it’s super nice. I live in SoCal, so I got mine pretty quickly. Nice username, by the way!
@Salmanthgr8 would you mind posting the link to the application website?
http://www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/tap/scholarship.htm
i’ve gone here but the actual application leads to an error 404. So what’s the correct link?
@UniversalSnip thanks for your response! Enjoy the aid!
I wrote an email to them asking for more. Sorry but I can’t even wipe my a** with the 400. FAFSA should include survey questions about debt. Because yah my family income is considered middle class but my dad has a sizable debt, tough time making ends meet.
I know there’s tons of students out there who need the aid more. but 400 for insurance, come on! They didn’t even try.
So this weekend was crazy deciding between cal or la but I finally chose ucla just cause cal is so flipping far and loans would be definite for both years. Which is why I chose la. Here’s what I mean, my sis can move out to la and I could live with her (rent free) but a part of me wants to live in transfer residence halls just cause it seems so fun and I never got to experience anything like that before. It’s so pricey though and I’d have to take out 10K in loans. Ahh is it worth it? I’m sorry for ranting on here but I just don’t know what to do. Is anyone on here going through with transfer dorming?
@hpmv13, I am! I’m also a younger student. I can’t speak to financial concerns, but maybe someone else can. I’m choosing to live in the transfer dorms because I want to meet new people and make friends. I’ve heard from other transfers that the transfer dorms are a great way to meet people.
@apocalypso yea! It just sounds awesome I want to meet people and stuff too . Are you taking out loans for housing? Also, are there different types if residence halls for transfers?
Posting here again, just so I can get some feedback. I have just received my acceptance letter to UCLA. I am a Spanish Major, but I decided to take Trig this spring semester. I told the office that I would take it and I did. But just yesterday I dropped it because I wanted to put my time and energy into the three other classes that I’m taking. @luckie1367
For financial aid, it didn’t seem to take very long (Maybe a week or so) to process my FA package after submitting the necessary documents.
I don’t remember transcripts taking too long either. It’s best to submit them online. SMC can send your transcripts for you online to UCLA. It’s the fastest and most secure way to send transcripts.
I don’t know about AP scores; I never sent any.
@JustMe95
It’s possible, but many people were in your situation last year, talked about it here, and few, if any had their offers of admission rescinded. I don’t think much will change this year, so I think you should be OK.
@hpmv13 another reason to choose LA over Cal, well Disneyland :-bd
as for the transfer dorms, i’m not doing that. I value my privacy and cannot share a small space with others. not to mention, downgrading from my huge bed to a small twin? yeah, I don’t think so. I’d love the experience of dorming if I got my own bedroom. Then I would be willing to sacrifice the space i’d be losing. But it’s a gamble i’m willing to not take.
@cayton What documents did you need to submit for financial aid? I’m wondering if I would need to submit anything if we used the IRS retrieval tool?
As for transcripts, you can have them emailed? I thought they wanted them physically mailed in?
@hpmv13 I’m only taking out a few thousand in loans (not over $10k) and am applying for scholarships. It would be less expensive off-campus but I’m a younger student and really want the residential experience. I’ll miss my bedroom and my space, but I think meeting people will be good. For the transfer theme housing, there’s only one hall (I believe it’s Gardenia in De Neve), but you can do other dorm options, they just won’t be the Transfer Experience hall. You can do apartments as well.
I’m sure this has already been covered somewhere in this HUGE and incredibly helpful thread, but I thought I could find the answer quicker by just asking.
I haven’t found anything on where upperclassman/transfer students usually live on campus. I just want to make sure that I am exposed to people closer to my age, I’d really rather not end up in a hall with all freshmen.
Where is everyone else planning to live? Also when transfers apply do they use a questionnaire in order to figure out who you room with? Has anyone already filled it out and can tell me the questions they ask?
Thank you! (I’m leaning towards UCLA)
@MrPink92 I heard most transfer students live in the gardenia residential halls! That’s where I’m planning on living.
