Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

@MrPink92 and yes there’s a questionnaire you fill out. Stuff like what time you go to sleep, how clean/messy you are, smoke or drink, etc

@MrPink92
Rieber Terrace, Rieber Vista, Sproul Cove to a degree I think, and Gardenia are where many of the transfers are at. I’m at Rieber Terrace myself.

And yes, on the housing application, there’s a questionnaire to gauge your preferences and try to set you up with someone who’s similar to you and fits your preferences in a roommate. They’ll ask questions regarding whether you care if your roommate(s) smoke, drink, sleep at a certain time, are organized, and so on. I don’t recall any questions about age preferences, but if you want to increase the chances that your roommate(s) will be closer to your age, I recommend listing plazas and/or apartment suites as your housing preferences. Older people go there, generally. Residence Halls are where most of the freshman/sophomores are at.

If you’re unlucky and don’t like your roommate(s) for whatever reason, there are room swap opportunities early in the school year. You can switch out to another room if you can find someone who’s willing to take your place.

Generally, though, most people I know are satisfied with their roommates. Bad roommates are a reality, obviously, but you’ll probably have roommates who are at least decent/not annoying.

@LuckyName
A verification form stating my family’s income. That kind of stuff. Proof of income on your part, too, if you had any income.

You can send physical transcripts to UCLA, and you can even hand them in yourself in a sealed envelope, but having your community college electronically send the transcripts is the most convenient way to get the process over with. If that’s not an option, your CC should be able to send in your transcripts themselves through the mail. Check with your school, of course.

Is anyone got updated transcripts on Myucla? I sent a week ago but still not show up.

Is anyone a current philosophy major at UCLA?

@FUTUREUCLABRUIN1 @Cayton

hey @Cayton I was just wondering when they finalize your financial aid after admission, did your receive more or the same amount as the estimated?

Do you guys know if it’s okay to send in transcripts before sending in the SIR? I have to wait to SIR because I don’t have $100 on me yet :frowning:

@laboratory1 I’m in the same boat.

@luckie1367 they said my case can be reviewed, but financial issues aren’t really enough to let me defer >.>

@luckie1367 oh and I’m OOS so my financial aid is pretty bad.

Philosophy major here!

@Npham95
The same. Financial aid estimates tend to be very accurate.

@FUTUREUCLABRUIN1
I am. Ask me anything.

JUST GOT MY ADMISSIONS PACKET IN THE MAIL! :slight_smile:
so nice

@Cayton idk if you can answer this, but here it goes. what can you tell me about Continental philosophy at UCLA? My friend is a philosophy major who is interested in UCLA, but is concerned with the amount of continental philosophy courses at UCLA.

@FUTUREUCLABRUIN1
UCLA’s philosophy department specializes solely in analytic philosophy; there’s almost no continental philosophy classes here. They teach a class every now and then on existentialism and the philosophers associated with it, but that’s about it for the most part.

@merpcollegelife ah, I’m sorry, that sucks!

@Cayton, thanks! The reason I ask is that they’ve had it for 8 days (did it electronically and got the confirmation), but it hasn’t been marked received on MyUCLA… I’m just really neurotic 8-X

Does anybody know what linguistics is like at ucla?

@Clayton what does the coursework for a philosophy major consist of? how is the typical philosophy class structured in terms of workload (are there weekly assignments, essays, etc?).

@apocalypse thanks to know

So I have an issue that I need help with!!!

I want to drop my interpersonal communication class because working full time and going to school full time is just too much for me. I go to school from 9:40am-9:40pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays then work every other day. It’s way too much. I’m also taking statistics, calc ii, and critical thinking and writing. The last two are major requirements that I want to focus on. I have all A’s right now but my tests always seem to end up on the same weeks and I don’t want to risk not getting A’s and I think this would be the best way to insure my success. So now that I’ve explained my reasoning do you think it will affect my admissions contract? I called ucla and they said probably not as long as I still have more than 60 units total without it which I do. Anybody else have any other thoughts?

Thank you in advance!!!
