Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

Yes you do get unit credit. You also receive unit credit credit for a D- (although in that case you will not get subject credit). Also, as you know, if it’s IGETC or major req, a D won’t fulfill the req as the course needs a C grade or better.

It’s funny you asked that because I was chewing over that a few weeks ago…

Study Study Study!

I second luckie. It’s amazing how you can sometimes recover from the brink. Did you ask the prof if you could do extra credit? Impress upon him the dire need to get a C-.

I’m a communication studies major aka nothing to do with the class I’m struggling with lol

And yes my professor is really strict and gives absolutely no extra credit under any circumstance :frowning: I informed her all about my situation and shes like yeah you really just need to study and get the A. Worst part: her exams are alll essay questions…no multiple choice, so you have to realllly know the material.

Ohhhhhhh communications. That adds a new twist. How does that D affect your GPA? The average admit GPA is like 3.94, and i think they pride themselves on broadcasting that everywhere.

None of us can tell you. We can only hazard a guess in any scenario, but that is a very selective major.

The D will totally murder my GPA lol I have like a 3.8…however I’m hoping since it is such a selective major and impacted and since I’m already in they won’t kick me out…and I can retake this class somewhere over summer and change my D…still hopeful for a C though

It’s a great major. My daughter was in it but SIR’d elsewhere. Yeah, the fact that you’re in helps. Good luck! AND GET A C-.

Thank you a bunch

@CaLadyyyyyyy Im a comm studies major and go to GCC too!! Who’s your prof?

Does anyone know if a counselor is able to meet with admitted students to discuss course planning before orientation, just to sort of set up a road map or something? Is that something I could ask someone tomorrow at Bruin Day?

@Icj1994 I kinda did one on my own just using the website and stuff…

@lcj1994 Dr. Dionisio. Shes the only prof. for this course. She has a great personality; just a very hard class, for me at least. Don’t take unless its required.

Yah I was just doing that, but I always like a little help haha, I did my CC planning all on my own, partially because the counselors were not very helpful. But for UCLA i don’t want to leave anything up to chance. I already feel like I probably messed something up already! :((

@CaLadyyyyyyy Oh nice. Yah I had Johnson for Psych and never took your course. So you got in UCLA for this fall too?! That’s great. I’m sure everything will work out. I feel like they put so much effort into reviewing our apps to let us into such a selective major that they wouldnt throw you to the wolves so to speak so quickly

Eeek I’m hoping they let the D slide but I want that C so bad! Did you apply anywhere else? @lcj1994 I’m currently waiting on USC Annenberg for comm. as well; but UCLA is my #1 choice and I’m going to commit by June 1 and just hope it all works out.

Thanks @lindyk8

@CaLadyyyyyyy @lcj1994 last year when my daughter went to orientation, there is a time when a rep from the major is supposed to be there to help you. No one from Comm Studies was there and the student advisor told my daughter Comm Studies never shows up to welcome or support the students at orientation.

Seeing the tents being set up in the past few days at Wilson Plaza for Bruin Day tomorrow makes me reminisce about when I went to Bruin Day last year.

I’m so excited!
