Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

Nice @Mac2000 !

I have been to campus so I skipped the tour, I wish I had gone to the store! I think my family kept me away so that I didn’t buy everything and go overboard :))

@luckie1367
UCLA really knows how to impress.

Even if you’ve been to the campus before, I’d recommend carrying a map around for the first few weeks of classes. It’s easy to get lost when you’re trying to get somewhere at UCLA. I struggled for a few weeks in the Fall quarter, lol

Which type of housing are the following, classic or deluxe halls?

DeNeve Gardenia
Sproul Landing
DeNeve Acacia and Birch
Dykstra Hall
Rieber Hall
Sproul Hall

I guess these are all the theme communities?

NEVERMIND! I just realized halls don’t have private bathrooms (DUH!). Not interested, haha.

@LuckyName
Yeah, the bathroom situation with residence halls is a good reason to live in an on-campus plaza or suite. I live in a plaza and only have to share a bathroom with 5 other people and not the whole floor.

@Cayton i’m looking at “APT 2 Bd/3 person - double” how can an apartment with 2 bedrooms be a double if it’s three people? Or “APT 2 Bd/3 person - single” how is it a single if it’s three people? I’m so confused. :((

Try hitch or saxon

I gave up. I’ll try coming back to it in a few weeks. It’s too complicated. Like why torture us? -_-

@LuckyName It means that, in the apartment, there will be 3 people spread out in two bedrooms - one room will be a single for one person (the cost will be higher) and one room will be for two people (with the cost being lower). I’m pretty sure.

What did you guys think of Bruin day? I thought it was pretty cool. It was nice showing my family around. I think my kids were inspired by the whole thing which made it all worth it.

I really liked Bruin Day! After today and PILOT Day, I’m pretty tired, though. The welcome at Pauley was more fun than I thought it’d be and people on campus seemed pretty friendly. I wish the day were longer, though–I only had time for two of the tours and getting a sweatshirt. I really wanted to look at the booths. But I had a really good time! I’m really excited to start in the fall.

@apocalypso PILOT Day was so disorganized by the end of the day. 8-X

@LuckyName That game of jeopardy is etched in me forever. I liked that it was pretty small w/r/t how many people showed up.

@apocalypso it was absolutely ridiculous, haha.

@LuckyName the rest of the event was fun though, lol. Got a lot of free food (!) and (most) people were pretty friendly. So sunburned by this weekend though, lol.

Hey guys, What is the minimum amount of units needed to maintain scholarship and financial aid offers? I’m now considering spreading out my courses over the next two years instead of one, but still want to take the bulk of my courses in my Junior year. If I take 75% of my classes in my junior year, will the 25% of classes I leave for my senior year be enough to stay on financial aid and scholarship?

If we want to take a summer class at another UC, how do we know if it is equivalent to a class at UCLA?

@fullload :))

Fullload why not do just one extra quarter senior year?

And you do lose money. They recalibrate it based on units.

@fullload 12 units is considered fulltime, so anything less could result in reduction or even removal of certain forms of aid. also be aware that some scholarships require that you have a full year left.

The only reason I can spread it out now is LSAC (for law school) confirmed my gpa will be substantially lower without those senior year courses, so I have to have an entire Junior year of classes to turn in. Basically, I’d be doing nothing in the second year instead of being in LS, so it’s better to at least be enrolled with a minimum load in my senior year.

Anyway, lindy, if I’m following your suggestion, you’re saying to load up my Junior year and just add a Fall quarter my senior year? Would they still pay for that and give me my aid and scholarship money? With only one quarter in my senior year? I’d actual prefer to just spread out 5-10 units a quarter my senior year to stay busy.

But again, I don’t know the minimum units needed to maintain the FA and scholarship offers.
