Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

Funny, Lucky. :wink: However it has nothing to do with the load, I can handle that. It has to do with having an extra year off now, instead of being in LS. No reason to kill myself just to sit on my thumbs for a year.

@fullload In terms of FA, it’s better to have 1 quarter that’s a fullload than to have 2-3 part time.

From 1 “old timer” to another, I will have a year off before grad school, and I’m looking forward to it. I’ll start grad school the same time I would have if I had taken 2 years at UCLA. I can’t wait to have time off of school!

Thanks, so to clarify, I can keep my FA and scholarship my senior year if I load up in Fall, and take the remaining quarters off, instead of spreading out 5-10 units per quarter all year? Sounds good to me if that works for UCLA.

@2016Candles How long after we SIR does it take for the final award letter to be released?

do you guys know just about how much time it takes for ucla to receive your official transcript and igetc certification. I sent out a transcript awhile ago and i think they got it but I’m going to go ahead and send another along with my igetc certification which i haven’t sent yet tomorrow. I hope it gets there in time for june 1??

Also if I’ve finished IGETC does that mean I don have to take any GEs even if one was highlighted on assist.org which i didn’t take (took 5 of the 6 listed, but i didn’t take econ because there were too many prereqs at my cc).

@Icj1994 Nobody can answer that. That just depends on your school. It took some people weeks. It took me three days. It took others a week. It’s all different.

If your portal says they received it, then they received it. Your igetc isn’t due until September 1st.

Your IGETC and pre-reqs (assist.org) are not the same thing. They could be used to satisfy both requirements but they are not the same. You NEED to complete that 6th pre-req at UCLA to graduate. You IGETC will satisfy your lower division general ed requirements. But you’ll still have to do upper division general ed / elective classes because you need 180 units to graduate.

Gotcha thanks! Im not sure if they got the official transcript, because it says “A preliminary transcript has been received from GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE . A final transcript is still required”.

@LuckyName
I honestly don’t remember. But your provisional award will likely be no different. The specific awards may change but the totals will likely not change.

@Icj1994 yes, they received it. That means they received the first transcript. Your final transcript will be the one you send in with your spring grades.

@2016Candles thank you!

@LuckyName I SIRed on 4/19 and still no updated financial award…

Has anyone gotten summer financial aid information yet?

Did anyone go to the AAP scholars event on Bruin Day and hear about TSP? I know the application came out yesterday at 5PM for a program that only has room for 200 students but I couldn’t access it at all yesterday. I went into myUCLA app site and with my friend at 4:59 yesterday got ready to apply (knowing they have to turn away lots of students) but didn’t get the link on myucla site that she did… We both tried it on our phones. Even today I looked for the link in the same spot she had it on hers, but with no success. Does anyone have any info on TSP?

@kindfine Same thing happened to me. I emailed them asking for the eligibility criteria, because it could be that we aren’t eligible for the program, and that’s why it isn’t available on our pages.

It still baffles me as to why somebody would want to join TSP. I mean why not register in classes related to your major? Why fulfill classes that you don’t even NEED?

From my two days at UCLA this weekend, all the transfers I met who did TSP, about 10 or so, said that TSP was a very important part of their transition from CC to UCLA. You get much more support than the summer sessions with your own counselors and tutors and it’s also cohort based, so all of your classes are with the same people. They described it as “academic boot camp” that prepares you for the fall quarter. Bonuses are that you establish a GPA for the fall quarter so that you can apply for UCLA scholarships immediately, AND the courses count as honors courses. I signed up and I really hope I get a spot!

Hey y’all, does anyone know if IGETC certification required for all majors? I seem to be getting conflicting info depending on where I check.

That’s a good question, Plato. I was actually just looking over my checklist and myucla and I don’t even see where UCLA is requesting my IGETC certification. I just assumed they wanted it, but now I’m not even sure they’re requiring it from me.

@fullload I have it under ‘Send Official Transcripts’ on the admission contract, on my portal (where the acceptance was posted)

@Platocrat I think it might be on some assist pages, but I can’t quite remember. If you put on the app that you will be IGETC certified, I think you HAVE to send it in.

I know of some that had partial IGETC, that had to take more GE classes once they were at UCLA. Therefore, I suggest completing it so you can be done with your GEs.
