Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

For those planning to apply for fall 2016, the personal statement prompts are not changing next year. If you don’t remember them, here they are:

Can a history major(college of letters and science) take architecture classes which part of school of the arts and architecture?

Hey guys, is it ok to take a random elective class? I mean, I found this class outside of my major with no prereqs that looks fun. I’d like to take it alongside one of my major classes this summer. I know it wont count toward anything, but just curious if it’s even allowed?

It’s a cake-walk class so I’m not worried about it being difficult to pass or anything.

@fullload
You can take random electives. It will give you unit credit towards the 180 units needed for graduation.

Cool, thanks candles. I was going to take it P/NP, hope that’s ok too.

Yup! I’m taking my last random elective this summer P/NP.

Ethnomusicology is said to have easy-A upper-div classes. I’ve known a few people who’ve taken them here…“cake-walk” doesn’t begin to describe how easy they’re said to be.

I don’t like the idea of taking easy-A classes, but if you really need a GPA boost, think about taking classes in that department.

My daughter was going to minor in ethnomusicology, @cayton. haha. She was all set to take the Beatles course.

Hello I have a question.

I already got accepted and I’m taking 18 semester units this spring semester. However, it looks like I will not be able to pass one of my classes which means that those units will be counted towards my 60 units. The problem is that I will be 4 units short to complete 60 units if this happens. Will this get me rescinded? Other than that I qualify my other transfer conditions.

Thanks

Others will know better, but if memory serves, the one real stickler UCLA has is the 60 units minimum. I’d call them right away to discuss options. Maybe you can jump into a Summer class or something, but you need to call admissions first thing in the morning. Not having your 60 is no bueno.

I thought so. I will try negotiating to try and have then accept units from a summer course. Thanks

Yes, I agree with fullload. I believe that is non-negotiable. If I had to choose I’d pick a D and hope for the best. Not that I’m saying to do that. Try to get a C or at least a C-.

Even so I am still going to try and see what I can do. I attempted 18 units which would have gotten me to 60 so I’ll see what they say. Thanks for the feedback

@frickendavid Good luck! Let us know. I actually DO want to know if they allow under 60 through spring. Another person seemed to indicate the UCs let him in with under but a bunch of us thought it might be miscalculated. So I’m curious to know… :-h

Yup, above posts are correct, you HAVE to have 60 units. Whether or not you can make it up in the summer is up to UCLA.

Do you have any AP units? Those can count toward the 60 units

@Cayton hmm I’m planning to take Ethnomusicology 25 this summer, the name of professor is Jesse Ruskin.

I’m a little worried about the viability of this thread, since it is only the “Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students” and not the “OFFICIAL Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students” thread…

With nearly 4000 posts, you’re worried… Ok :-/

Haha, @lbwaterpoloman, OFFICIALLY, you have a point, :))

Candles, I think he was joking. Every Tom, Dick and Harry creates these with official in the title.

Oh ok. It’s been a LOOONG day… I guess I left my sense of humor at some lecture hall on campus
