Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

Thats pretty soon! Haha I have to get in study mode lol!

Oh Jesus, you’re right!

I keep thinking its early May, not the 21st! My bad b-(

Where do you guys see the survey for orientation?

@edwardcruz319 under ‘campus life’

@luckie1367 Thank you! :slight_smile:

BTW what orientation do you think is best? Is early really the best?

@Icj1994 and @luckie1367 you can enroll in Honors and not complete it. they’ll just drop you from the program.

“Your records will be reviewed after each Spring quarter for minimum progress towards completion of your College Honors requirements. As a Transfer Student you are required to complete a minimum of 2 honors courses (8 units) and have at least a 3.3 cumulative UCLA GPA by the end of your first year. Please be aware, however, that you must complete your required 28 units of honors work and have at least a 3.5 GPA by your graduation from UCLA.”

So your records are evaluated twice. At the end of your junior year and if you have satisfied the requirements, you’ll still have honors for your senior year. If you have not, you’ll be dropped from the program. You’ll then be evaluated again at the end of your senior year. If you have satisfied your requirements you’ll graduate with honors. If not? You’ll be dropped from the program.

@Icj1994 no, you have equal shot at classes regardless of when you go to orientation. I will be choosing one that fits with my work schedule (when it is released). Dates can be found here: http://www.newstudents.ucla.edu/transferstudents.htm#dates

@LuckyName thanks!

I did apply for the regular honors program, since it was just a one click process. But i’m more interested in the departmental honors. But I don’t know if we’re supposed to apply during our junior or senior year. I feel like incoming transfers wouldn’t be able to do it because it’s time demanding. The application is due in a few days and you’re supposed to begin your research this summer, if you were approved into the program. This is what makes me think that incoming transfers aren’t eligible because they wouldn’t even know about it until Fall! And I believe you can only apply once a year, because it’s a year process. BLAH!

@luckie1367
That is sort of true about classes for orientation. Many classes are held for orientation, so regardless of which orientation you go to you have an equal shot classes. There are however, classes that are not held, and those are first come first served. I’m not saying you need to go to orientation week one, but if you can avoid it, I would not wait until the end either.

@luckie1367 I had to request a physical copy because my school doesn’t send electronic transcripts to UCLA(the only uc is ucsd).I filled the transcript request at like 530 at night on last thursday so it was probably sent out on friday. My CC is only an hour away so it probably arrived saturday or monday. So about 3-4 days to process the transcripts after it arrived.

This might be a dumb question, but at orientation do the new student advisors help you register for classes that are specifically within your major and sit down with you? or do they over look a group of students and just help you if you need it?

The NSAs will generally be in your major, especially if it’s one of the more popular ones. If it’s something super obscure, probably not. But they do sit down with you one-on-one and help you decide on a class schedule.

@2016Candles thanks!

@History2Law wow, I’m impressed! That was shorter than mine and I sent a electronic copy!

Adding to my tracking post:

AP Scores: Sent 4/19, Marked 4/29
Official Transcript: Fall: Sent 4/19, (email confirmation on 4/22), Preliminary Pending 4/29
Official Trancript: Spring: pending current coursework
Financial Aid: Regular: still provisional (SIR on 4/19),
Summer aid: applied before 4/30, confirmed 5/1
IGETC: Certified by SMC on 5/8
BruinCard: applied 5/20, accepted 5/22

Interestingly, my DARS updated when my AP scores came in, but hasn’t changed with my fall transcript or the IGETC…

Also, does anyone know when the finanical aid will update (both summer & regular)?

Just got an email from alumni scholar! I got it, so yay!

Congrats @LuckyName !!! <:-P

Do you mind sharing what it says?
