Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

That’s a good question, award344. In myucla they don’t ask for it anywhere, for me anyway. I was considering not even dealing with it since they’re not asking for it.

My thought is, after they receive final transcripts in July, why would they need it considering it’s all right there in the transcripts?

Well what happened with my daughter (although they claimed they never got her transcript) was in the DAR (Degree Audit Report) that was posted on the portal in July (?) all her listed IGETC classes were checked off as fulfilling categories. She said her IGETC classes all had check marks. I believe it’s set up by IGETC category, although I may be wrong on that point. Anyway, somewhere it says fulfilled.

@award344 My understanding from @Cayton and @2016Candles is that you see it on the Degree Audit Report at some point.

@fullload I think if you put ‘IGETC Certified’ on your UC app, you have to submit it.

Luckie, is that just an assumption or is that printed anywhere? I mean, it sounds like a fair assumption but UCLA is very clear about every item they want and I find it puzzling why they would require IGETC without asking me for it anywhere.

Lindy, so to clarify what you’re saying is, there will be a DAR sometime in July and if you’ve satisfied IGETC courses, they will be listed in there? And, no requirement for sending in the actual IGETC certification will be necessary? Not sure if I understood you correctly.

I believe fullload might have said he was partial. Whichever it is you should (and are required) to send in by the july 15 deadline as you may have registration problems later if they don’t have verification of the GE pattern fulfilled - or partial, missing 1-2 courses.

One other thing about partial. You’re suposed to also send in the final full certification after your summer course, although I have heard it is at the discretion of your UC advisor. If it’s just one class, they may just sign off on it.

Dang it, well ok then, I’ll send it in. Lindy, where is that July 15 deadline posted? That’s sounds specific so I assume it’s listed somewhere? Thanks.

Yeah, it’s somewhere, but they’re pretty flexible about it because you’re at the mercy of the CCC sending it and some lag.

Here’s UCSD, I just found it fast, but july 15 IGETC deadline is always noted everywhere:
http://admissions.ucsd.edu/transfers/timeline.html

And yeah my daughter also sent in her IGETC certification.

Got it, but I’d feel a lot more comforted if I could find it listed somewhere from UCLA too. Hmm.

Trust me, that will work. They need the certification because it is the contract from the CCC that you fulfilled the gen Ed courses. If you never send it in, when it comes time to graduate the UC will decide you are missing your gen Ed courses needed for graduation. The certification is really important and not automatic. You need to request it separately from your transcript.

On it. Thanks.

@fullload on my admission contract under ‘Send Official Transcripts’ it says IGETC must be received by Sept 1

“If you are transferring from a California community college or a University of California campus and will complete IGETC or UC Reciprocity, respectively, submit your official certification by September 1, 2015.”

Interesting, luckie, that’s not listed anywhere on my contract, I’m reading it now.

This is all that’s listed under my provisions for admission:

To be officially admitted to UCLA for Fall 2015:

    - You must request official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have attended be sent to Undergraduate Admission by 7/1/2015.

    - You must maintain the GPA and complete the number of units you reported in your application.

    - In order to fulfill the UC Subject requirement, you must complete the following courses with a "C" grade or better: two transferable courses in English composition; one transferable course in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning; four transferable courses in at least two of the following subjects: arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, physical and biological science.

    - You must be in good standing at your last institution of attendance. In addition, if you have attended another UC campus in regular session prior to enrollment at UCLA, you must have been in good standing when you left that UC campus.

    - You must complete the following course(s) with a grade of B or better:
All courses in Spring 2015 as reported on your Application
     Update, including Statistics.

    - Please submit transcripts for all coursework completed

through fall 2014 no later than June 1, 2015. Final
transcripts through spring 2015 are due by July 1, 2015.

Oh wow, mine is much longer:

Edit for privacy

Whoa, trip out. Yeah definitely very different than mine. I even looked at my transcripts needed page and all it has is:

Transcripts for / Must be received by
All courses taken through the fall 2014 term / June 1, 2015*
All courses taken through the spring 2015 term / July 1, 2015
All courses taken in summer 2015 (if any) / September 1, 2015

No mention of IGETC anywhere. I mean, anywhere.

Hmm… interesting! I’m going to take it down for privacy reasons though…

Sept 1 for IGETC is pretty late in the game. Essentially they will take it anytime, but I would try and stick with the UC-wide policy of July 15. If by some chance you checked that you have completed IGETC on the application and you are really a partial, which may be why you’re hesitating about all this, just send it in anyway. They are not going to rescind. And they’ll find out anyway.

Oh, I’ve already sent mine in, I was just adding that the deadline on my contract.

I agree that Sep 1 seems really late, and the sooner the better!

I know you already sent yours in @luckie1367. You’ve been on top of everything!! ;

I have a transcript from my CC that says that I have a IGETC certification achieved, is this enough or do they need a separate kind of form to confirm it?

@lindyk8 Sorry, just changed my questions because I saw that my transcript actually mentions that I have a IGETC certification! Didn’t actually realize this.

Don’t worry. There’s a later deadline for IGETC. Just go in and fill out a form.
