Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

Oh okay. I wasn’t lucky enough to get into UCLA :frowning: but the schools I did get into also have DAR online so I will be checking that.

@lindyk8 because I still haven’t made my decision on what school I will be attending so I just sent all transcripts and certifications to both schools. I SIR’d to both as well, hopefully they won’t penalize me for doing that.

Ahhh, you’re one of the double dippers… B-)

Oooh @bmirza991 make sure you cancel one of those before June 1. The UCs generally don’t like if you do that.

@luckie1367 I was planning on waiting till the second week of June when this semester ends to cancel one…have you heard of anyone double SIR’ing and their admission being rescinded?

My understanding is that you get a very strongly worded email telling you to withdraw from one school by a certain deadline or both will be canceled.

Plus, you’re holding a spot away from someone on the waitlist.

Edit: UCB doesn’t have a waitlist.

If you don’t mind me asking, what major, and why are you stuck?

Now that luckie brought it up, I will tell you I really dislike seeing people game the system by double SIRing. How much time does it take to make a decision? I’m not saying this against you, bmirza991 - you could be the nicest guy in the world - but really, just sit down, consider the pros and cons and choose one. What’s an extra week or two going to give you? They will send a sharply worded email, and I did hear of someone getting kicked out of both.

@luckie1367 Yeah I heard the same…hopefully I’ll have my decision made before I get any email.

My Major is Economics and I have 2 reasons why I’m stuck.
First of all, I have to abide by my admissions condition at UCB which is to get a 3.0 minimum for this spring semester and no grade lower than a C. I may get a C in the only course I’m taking so I don’t want to take chances by hoping they will overlook me getting a C and not revoke my admission. Therefore I am waiting for my semester to end to see what I get.
Secondly, I am already in the Econ program at UCSD but at Cal I would have to declare my major the first semester there and since Econ is a capped major, I would have to receive a certain GPA my first semester at Cal to get into it.

Ahhh, I see. As Lindy said, its not the right way to do it, but I can understand where you are coming from.

So, keep an eye on your email for the deadline, and pretty please withdraw from one as soon as you can.

Sorry for all the simple questions, but you guys have been such a great help so far!

Has anyone else noticed how the UCLA General Catalog has a few more major prep courses listed for some majors than the Transfer Major Prep page on their website?

For example, on their website the requirements for Psychobiology are: one year of bio w/ lab, one year of chem w/ lab, one year of calculus, one semester of organic chem w/ lab and one course in introductory psychology. However, on the general catalog it has all the courses the website mentions, plus one course in psychological statistics and one course in psychological research methods.

Since the General Catalog is reviewed every year (the one I’m looking at is 2014-2015), is it safe to assume the website is the most updated and should be okay? The general UC website also lists the same courses as the UCLA website (and not the additional two that the General Catalog has).

@Revofev there are some prereqs that are only offered at UCLA, hence there is no Assist/CC equivalent. So you have to take them AT UCLA once you are admitted.

Also, try here: https://www.psych.ucla.edu/undergraduate/undergraduate-student-services/majors-minors/psychobiology-major-for-transfer-students

Specific for transfers. I’ve been using the equivalent for the psych major

Thank you very much.

@bmirza991 I will say your hesitation has logic to it.

I noticed on the theme community page that they say: “If you select “Building Type”, “Room Type”, or “Roommate” as your highest-ranked preference, you will not be placed in a Theme Community.”

However, on my housing application, I didn’t see any options to rank these types of preferences.

For what it’s worth, my college says nothing about IGETC certification only being allowed once. When I spoke with a counselor about this way back in ~January, she made it sound like certifying someone was a pretty easy thing to do. I’ve emailed UCLA about this, so we’ll see what they say, but maybe it depends on CC. I don’t go to SMC.

I completely understand the double SIR thing. For many of us with strict contracts, if we don’t SIR to two we could lose the one shot and literally have to wait an entire year to go back to school. I only SIRd to UCLA but I’ve been one click away from adding UCI into the mix knowing this “C” is looming over my head this Spring. Just sayin’, don’t be harsh on the guy, I totally get it.

did you get the photo thing worked out? mine is doing the same…

What happens if they don’t receive your transcripts by June 1st? I sent mine yesterday but i don’t think it will get there in time.

@boogie15 i would like this question answered as well. Also is anyone still have trouble uploading a photo to the housing application?

@fullload
But in doing so, one would potentially be denying someone a chance at getting off the waitlist when they otherwise wouldn’t be. SIRing to two schools is unfair and refuses to consider the interests of others, and hence, unethical. No one should be doing that.

And for the record, I think you’ll be OK if you get a C.
