Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

@luckyname @luckie1367 you have to be able to resend. That would defeat all purposes. My daughter withdrew from UCLA, so by that logic she could never reapply to another UC. I’m thinking there’s a part left out. Once it’s completed, it’s just a file they send.

It just occurred to me, it probably means in the same year.

@lindyk8 yeah, I would assume the same year. I understand if it would be different years.

So @lindyk8 , your daughter could re-send hers? I applied for IGETC certification last year, and I remember them telling me in the office that I had to be sure which school I wanted to go to because “it could only be sent once”. This was at SMC. I sent it to a school, changed my mind and decided to take a gap year instead to save up some money. This is why I’m worried about getting the IGETC certification now. But it should be possible to get another one as long as I pay, I hope, anything else sounds crazy. I must have misunderstood something back then.

@Manda001 so I’m not going crazy, hah! Somebody else has heard this!

@Manda001 she hasn’t sent it yet but I think the woman probably meant just the same year, because you’re only supposed to SIR or accept one offer. I’ll keep you posted. For sure!

I can’t help but think if you could only send it once in your lifetime, they would have that written multiple places. That’s pretty major. You’ve created a slight concern but not too much… I’ll find out soon enough.

@LuckyName @manda001, It just occurred to me what I think she meant. She probably meant you can just send it one time FREE and then you pay 25 bucks or whatever. Because you have to have the ability to send more than once in a year. What if you were waitlisted or appealed; in the meantime, you SIR’d somewhere else, then got in. You’d withdraw from first and have to resend IGETC to new UC.

@lindyk8 I have no idea! All I know is that I sent in Dec / January to CSUF. I then met with my counselor in April and sent it to UCLA. So I have sent it twice this year. I don’t know if it’s because one was a CSU and the other was a UC. I don’t know if I’ll have problems later on at UCLA because I had already sent it to CSUF. I just don’t know, lol.

To send IGETC you have to send in a separate application at admissions and records, much like you do when seeing in transcripts. On the form it says you can only be “officially certified” once. After that you’ve lost your chance, which makes no sense to me but thats what the counselors have said to me to drill home the fact that you must have everything completed prior to sending it.

Now as far as withdrawing and SIRing to a new university I don’t know that process, but what I’ve done and been instructed to do is send in IGETC after spring grades (or when ever your competed). You A&R at your cc will have the form to fill out and you can use credits from all CC’s etc you’ve attend that meet the requirements.

This is just what Ive done I didn’t know it was so confusing haha! Im hearing different things.

Thanks @lcj1994 it probably means you can only be “certified” once, although once you’re certified, not sure why you’d wish to redo it. Anyhow, my daughter said she had no issue sending IGETC to Berkeley (after previously sending to UCLA).

@fullload - I caht say specifically for summer, but typically FA is dispersed into your bank acct the week before classes.

Looking at my IGETC certification copy, it doesn’t say anywhere that it is a one time thing, or that it can only be done once… It just has the classes/AP stuff, initials next to those, ‘Full IGETC Certification’ checked (as opposed to ‘partial’) and a counselor’s signature…

This is the sort of stuff that generates so much confusion - one person behind a counter who might not have even had the facts straight, you know? @luckie1367

Completely @lindyk8.

And as much as I love SMC, their counselors can be pretty misguided…

For UC’s in general, when we submit a IGETC certification to admissions office at my CCC(SMC) do we also have to send them to the UC we are going to or does admissions do that for us?

@bmirza991 Here is the page for SMC to print the page
http://www.smc.edu/EnrollmentDevelopment/Admissions/Pages/IGETC-and-CSU-Petitions.aspx

You have to write in which UC you want it sent to.

Aha! It even says on the page ‘one campus per application’ suggesting you can send IGETC to multiple campuses

MYTHBUSTED

Thank you @luckie1367, I did this for both Cal and UCSD. I just wanted to make sure there wasn’t anything else we had to do. How do we check if the school has received it?

No clue, we’ve been discussing that fact here in the last few pages.

The consensus is that it will show up on the MyUCLA Degree Audit Report (DAR) sometime before your orientation (assuming you go to UCLA).

@Luckie1367- REALLY? Oh, so the OP probably wanted to send it to more than one campus, or asked about it.
