Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

Lets see if im doing this right.

So 11 weeks of meals each quarter. 33 weeks a year.

14 meals= 3 more meals a week. 3x33=99 meals. Cost is 223.44 more. So 223.44/99= 2.25 a meal.

19 meals= 8 more meals a week. 8x33= 264 meals. Cost is 389.88 more. So 339.88/264= 1.48 a meal.

those prices are compared to 11 meals.

@luckie1367 @Mac2000 Thank you so much, fellow Bruins!

@history2law, last year, as I was going to be paying the plan, we added 11, and I know then it could be updated with no fee. (My daughter ended up not going, so not sure if rules changed.) I like the idea of 11, because there are so many cool places to eat outside of UCLA, it seemed that caution should be the name of the day out the gate.,so I verified that an upgrade was possible - and it was, no fee.

I know re: Berkeley this year you can always upgrade with no fee. A downgrade has some nominal fee. They always like you upgrading. :slight_smile: I can’t see how they would charge you to upgrade. (As I recall you could also downgrade at UCLA without a fee, but not sure.)

@History2Law there is a $25.00 fee to change meal plans.

@LuckyName Thanks. I knew there was a fee to change it but I was wondering if we had till Sept 1 or some date to change it without a fee. Looks like I must get it right before I accept it without paying a fee.

I expected to eat out a decent amount but it seems like upgrading to more meals is really cheap. Where else could you eat for 2.25 a meal lol.

@History2Law I think there used to be a date. But they might have removed it because the website now only lists a $25.00 fee with no indication that it can be waived if done by certain day.

Haha, maybe it was a $25 charge last year.

UCLA has some of the best on-campus dining in the world apparently.

It does anikom. Supposedly the best of the UCs. But LA is one of the top restaurant cities in the world. In our case, I didn’t want to waste a higher meal plan if my daughter ate in Westwood a lot (or Panda). Same with her at Berkeley. Great food city, so I would rather ease in.

BTW, Berkeley lets you add increments of $50 any time, if you need more in your plan, and from what I could tell the cost was the same, maybe 2 cents more a point (it works on a point system, basically a buck a point). It’s a good way to go if you buy a lower plan and think you might need to just supplement here or there.

Accepted my housing offer (double in Reiber Vista) for $16,035! What a crazy price hahah. Hoping to submit a CAR for a double deluxe, do you guys think it will be possible to get gardenia/holly/sproul?

All I know is that I went to Wolfgang Puck express at Bruin Day and that’s where I’ll be eating all my lunches and dinners :))

Congrats @lcj1994, baby bruin. Bruin cub.

@anikom15
It’s good, but you’ll get tired of it eventually(dorm food, not so much the other restaurants). Give it 8 weeks or so after fall quarter starts.

" Student may change his or her meal plan by email via http://ask.housing.ucla.edu or by coming into the Housing Services office. Meal plan changes may be made at no charge (other than the difference in cost between the old and new meal plan) any time before 4:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of September. After the second Tuesday in September, a $25 administrative fee will be assessed for all meal plan changes."

The website states…

“Meal plans are included in the on-campus housing contract rate for residents. Meal plans are selected at the time you accept your housing offer and make your initial contract payment. You may change your selected meal plan at any time during the school year by coming in to the Housing Services office located on the ground floor of Sproul Hall. Housing Services is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. There is a $25 fee to change meal plans.”

So idk.

Hmmm I’m not sure. What I posted was just in the terms and conditions when signing my housing contract :slight_smile:

I actually went to go look and it does state that. So apparently the contract contradicts their website. Good job UCLA. Haha.

For anyone who appealed their decision: I was admitted off an appeal to African American studies today.

Major: African-American studies (will likely switch to gender studies, if I attend)
GPA: 3.4
Prerequisites: None available at my CC
IGETC: Yes
TAP: No
Accepted: UCR, UCSC, UCD (admitted off wait list), SFSU, CSUEB, HSU, CSUS, UCLA
Rejected: UCB

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting on either an appeal or wait list decision!

@starkali Congratulations!!
