I’m in mild distress right now simply because I lost my chance of taking classes during session C. And I’d appreciate any advice or confirmation of this possible doomness (yes, I made that word up).
The earliest option available now for orientation day (day on which we enroll in classes, and potentially summer sessions) is 8/18/2015, which is more than two weeks after the day session C begins.
Yes, I know. I should of signed up for the orientation day earlier, probably on the 4th.
But in all honesty I wasn’t expecting all availabilities in July to just get snatched up that quickly.
Any word of advice is welcome.
Thanks, fellow Bruins.

@darren808
I’m not 100% sure I know what exactly the problem is… Are you signed up for summer session C, but now you think you can’t take the class because it conflicts with Orientation? If this is your concern let me know, and I’ll respond with my solution.
Or are you under the impression that you sign up for summer classes during orientation? Is so, this is not the case. You can sign up for summer classes right now on My UCLA. No orientation needed. You sign up for Fall classes at Orientation.
@2016Candles Perhaps I should of reread my question before posting…
anyhow, your second response nailed my question, so that’s great!
I’ll do just that, thanks so much!
In terms of what is ‘better’, it will probably depend on the type of living experience you want. Some people want an apartment style, others want the more social dorms. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all or ‘best’ housing.

@fullload You’re not held prisoner during orientation – you’re free to come and go. Your group will be on the move throughout the day, so you may find it difficult to catch up with them again once you separate. There are chunks of time that is dead time, so maybe you’ll be lucky and your class will fall there. Also in the morning, you will likely be in areas around Royce Hall. Lunch will be in Ackerman. But after that - maybe 1 or 2 pm or so, you will spend the rest of the day on “the hill” where all the dorms are. That’s a pretty good hike from one side to the other. Just as you are planning out your day, just keep that in mind.
Thanks guys. I only want the orientation to get my classes, I really don’t want to deal with all the other stuff. I already know the campus by heart, been going there for years for other reasons. I’m just frustrated that I’m paying for something I don’t want to do on a day that I have classes, only to walk around learning about stuff I already know or don’t care about. Grr. Sorry - rant over.
@fulllload Since english is in L&S, you don’t HAVE to attend orientation.
It might be worth an email to see when you would register if you did not attend orientation. I agree, spending that much money if you are only going to hang out for the registration doesn’t make sense.
