Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

If you don’t attend orientation, you register after all orientation dates have ended.

I know Dykstra Hall is closest to central campus, but I was wondering which dorms are closest to north campus and south?

@Ellie64 most housing is clustered in the north west corner of campus. Dykstra is the south most (or one of the south most) housing, so it would be closest to south campus (kinda, they are all pretty far away)

If you pull up google maps, you’ll see what I mean

If you don’t sign up for orientation, then you register after everyone else. They are badically trying to make it impossible to resist going to orientation, it’s not mandatory, but you may hate your fall quarter if you don’t go.

@luckie1367 thank you!! I’m looking it up and getting a feel for it. Where would categorize Reiber Vista?

Farther from campus than Dykstra, farther north west

@luckie1367 I messed up during this spring semester… and my gpa is probably a 3.3 right now… it dropped so much because before, it was like 3.7 ): What are my chances of getting into UCLA now? if i am able to raise it back up to 3.6/3.7 by the end of fall 2015 and submit my fall grades during january, can i still get in?what’s your best advice for me?

@unknown10108 biochem or human bio, right?

Here is the UCLA webiste for the stats: https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14_mjr.htm#FI

Human bio average admit GPA is a 3.9X and biochem is a 3.7X.

Even if you had TAP, a 3.3 will not cut it. I’d say at least a 3.6, with ECs and a good PS might give you a shot at biochem.

Why the drop, if you don’t mind me asking?

Edited: Nevermind, found what I need.

I chose and got an apartment (plaza) at De Neve, but am having seconds thoughts on switching to a res hall since it’s cheaper.

Anyone with knowledge/experience on what halls are like for transfers? Will you be surrounded by mainly freshmen? What are you guys’ room types and why’d you choose that (assuming you got 1st choice)?

Thanks!

Seems like a decent amount of people got rooms at De Neve. I also got a plaza at De Neve…

I’ll trade with you @bearly :stuck_out_tongue:

@luckie1367 the drop was because of one of my physics classes  I didn’t have the best professor and I didn’t really focus much in that course as opposed to chem and calculus

@luckie1367 I believe that if I can complete 15 units of honors, i will qualify for tap obviously. But I’m not sure which courses of tap i would want to do. I did art history honors for GE, i have like 12 more units to go. I’m thinking maybe chemistry or biology honors, since that will be 5 units.

@unknown10108 TAP would be a good thing considering how competitive both majors you are considering.

If you feel you can handle a science course as an honors course, go for it. However, be aware that if it is a major prep course, they do not look at is as ‘B, but as an honors course’, they see it as a straight B. If there are any easy, fluff classes that you can take for the 12 units of honors you need, I’d start there.

The reason I ask is that raising a GPA can take a lot of work, and I wanted to make sure your dip was due to a relatively minor problem. Sounds like as long as you put in the time and focus in further classes you should be fine.

Use https://uctap.universityofcalifornia.edu/students/index.cfm to play around with your GPA by entering and changing your future grades. It always helped me to see what a realistic semester/GPA looked like.

I’m also in De Neve @Bearly. My understanding is that DN has a good amount of upperclassmen and transfer students.

If anyone wants to switch! :))
I got a double in Reiber Vista and would loooveee De Neve! Do they let you know if it’s cedar, evergreen, etc right away?

My last housing question!! Hehe
Does anyone know if you get to choose which residential building you want when submitting a CAR, or is it just based on type/occupancy/bath?

It seems that a lot of people want De Neve, should I count myself lucky that I got it? Still, plazas are like 2k more than residential halls :E. But @luckie1367 that’s cool! Maybe we’ll run into each other. I’m inclined to believe that plazas house more upperclassmen compared to halls. But my question still stands regarding halls: will I be surrounded by freshmen?

Also echoing Ellie64’s question since I might submit a CAR too, with a follow up q: are you required to take it if your request is accepted? Since I’m kind of on the fence still… thanks!
