Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

IT’S FINALLY OUT!!!

Good luck you guys!! I absolutely love love love being a Bruin! I hope you guys will too!

I’m an econ major, and I found it strange that the average accepted GPA fell to 3.89 but the acceptance rate was lowered to around 15%. I’m currently sitting at 3.92 and still incredibly nervous about my chances.

Hello I need advice on which major is the best to apply as for ucla. I am deciding between American indian or middle eastern studies. For american Indian Ill have done 2/3 required classes by jan 30 but one of them was a C… however for middle eastern studies I am way more interested but do not think I will get in because it requires “a year of arabic” and none of the classes needed are offered at my cc and there are no other ccs nearbhy. What should I do. btw I can read and write arabic and would pass any proficiency test they offered. Thank you for your time

How does double majoring work? If accepted in my current major, can I also apply for another major after (if) I’m accepted? What if you dont have the major prereqs completed for that second major?

@mshukry‌ I believe you can request a placement exam. Passing it may be equivalent to the 1 year of Arabic. Add it to your additional comments then follow up with the department. You should go ahead and apply with Middle Eastern Studies as your major, if you have most of the prerrqs done for it.

the only pre req is a year of arabic

I think I can already smell my rejection lol. This is really awful. Anyways good luck everyone…it’s gonna be a long wait.

Why?

No ECs and mediocre personal statements. But UCLA is my dream school after all so I guess I’ll wait it out

Do you have TAP? What major did you apply under?

Nope. And biology…

Don’t be too discouraged! You never know.

Thanks :D

Hi guys! Just submitted my application today, hoping for UCLA (obviously ^_^)
Anyways, was wondering if you guys would chance me! I’m really nervous… this is going to be a looooong wait.

Major: Psychology
Pre-reqs: Done by winter quarter
IGETC: Done by spring quarter
Personal Statement: 8/10
GPA: 4.0
No TAP since my school doesn’t offer it
EC: None because I worked jobs and had family obligations.
Will have 90+ quarter units by the time of transfer.

Thanks you guys! And best of luck to all of you.

Well I’m back. I’m late to the party but I wanted to comment on the protests.

@k4201505, I totally agree with you. The bill already passed. The decision to block the bonfire was pretty ridiculous. The only way to justify the protesters actions is to say they brought more attention to the issue. But honestly, who the ■■■■ hadn’t heard of the tuition hike at that point? It was all over the internet, the newspapers, and TV for crying out loud.

No one wants tuition raised. I cant speak for the other UC’s but UCLA is funded by the state at a whopping 7%. That’s so pathetic. Other top public schools cost roughly the same or even more than UCLA, for example. Furthermore, the poorest of students go to school for free. Someone has to foot the bill and clearly the state isnt going to. Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure the only people who will be paying more are those from families that make roughly 160k or more + OOS kids. Is this correct? I’ve been looking for a source but I can’t find one.

Anyways, I’m not pissed off at the protesters but I was dissapointed. I took work off for the event and was really looking forward to it. Plus a lot of people were working really hard to put the event together. I wonder how much money and time was wasted?

@MizuRue @‌littlebill

You guys with no ECs have little chance. IIRC UCLA/UCB rate your application on scale of 1-5 with only 1s and 2s having the possibly of being enrolled. ECs are worth a full point.

Well some of those who posted in here work full time, and from what I understand, the UC system takes that into consideration when a student lacks EC’s. Personally, I retired early from my career so I had savings, giving me the ability to pad my EC’s, but not everyone is so lucky, and I’m sure the UC system knows this.

As for your point ranking, I’m confused. You say 1’s and 2’s are considered, but then why does it go to 5? Is 5 the lowest chance, so it’s backwards? Then why do you get a point for EC 's?

I actually looked up IIRC because I thought it was some sort of website…

@bomerr, can you explain more?
