Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

@trnsfrstdnt You’re welcome! I’ve already visited the UCLA Scholarship office and they AMAZING. They will help with finding scholarships, thinking about what to write for your scholarship essays, helping with the structure of your essays and even proofreading. I can’t wait to use their resources even more once I’m enrolled, but all of their services are already available to us.

@onmyway8 that’s awesome! I’ll be using that as well. thanks!

@UCLA17 Yep, immunizations are not mandatory and AlcoholEdu got pushed.

I had 2 different groups of people ask me where the penguin statue was today :open_mouth:

Does UCLA have a penguin statue? The first time it happened I though it was going to be like a ‘punk’d’ thing, lol, :-??

@luckie1367 is it near the P Diddy statue?

Hahaha, that was actually a pretty big topic of conversation today @lindyk8 =))

Sounds like it got blown out of proportion to me :))

@luckie1367 that’s not what the kettlebell told me. b-(

I still haven’t received my admission’s packet (I was admitted late about 2.5 weeks ago). Should I call?

Hahah, if he actually did throw one, my hats off to him. Those suckers are HEAVY.

@starkali do you live in-state and near LA? you will eventually get your admissions packet but it may take a while. I live close to LA and it took them 10 days to deliver it. FYI, i also received a late admission (June 11th).

Hello friends,
I am considering transferring to a UC from an out of state university due to various reasons, and UCLA is one of my choices. I wanted to ask those of you who got accepted to UCLA (fall transfers) what your Freshman year AND sophomore year (first semester/ quarter) grades were, since they consider both when reviewing your application.
What else do they take into consideration?
Thanks in advance.

The CAR site is available. Scroll down to “Other Services and Information”: https://housing.ucla.edu/my-housing/my-housing

@starkali ahhhh thanks!!!

I went to start the CAR, and they had two abbreviations for De Neve - DN and DEN. Anyone know the difference?

edit: oops I figured it out

@lindyk8 Hey question why do you think people advise not to take Comm 10 your first quarter when it is such a core course? What was your daughter planning on taking on UCLA her first quarter?

Is the CAR a lottery as well or is it first come, first serve?

@lcj1994, I can’t remember what she signed up for but they fulfilled Comm courses. I think a couple of the electives. Maybe ling 1? I think she might have chosen one course outside the major now that I think about it - an ethnomusicology course.

I recall very clearly the reason they suggest waiting with CS 10 is so your GPA doesn’t tank. An advisor told her that. He said at least a term at UCLA helps acclimate you. At Berkeley they have a similar course in Media Studies which you have to take first term with at least a B- in order to declare the major.

You got a better deal. :expressionless:

@LuckyName I think it’s a little bit of both - the sooner you submit your request, the faster you have your name in to get your room changed. And then it probably comes down to whether someone wants your type of room if they have the kind you want.

Does anyone’s MyUCLA say that their final official transcripts have been received?

@fncrane mine said it was received on Tuesday!

There’s a check box on the home page and mine is checked. Is that one the one you’re talking about?

@fncrane I sent in both my transcripts until fall of 2014 and then again for spring of 2015. About a week ago they finally said that all my transcripts had been received. I think I sent the spring ones out on June 1st
