Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

UC admissions data released Thursday indicate an increase in nonresident and transfer admissions for fall 2015 compared with previous years statistics, while California freshman applicants faced a 1.7 percent decline in acceptances.

I was reading the FAN guide and it talks about the Budget Increase Request Form. So if I buy a laptop and show them the receipt along with the form, will they for sure add the value of the laptop to my Cost of Attendance? I want to make sure.

Also, if I accept my FAN, and then increase my Cost of Attendance, they’ll generate a new FAN correct?

Hey people so when I received my housing offer I was given SLC double, which I accepted, however, after accepting my financial aid offer today it states that I will be living in Hilgard housing apartments for graduate students. I am not a graduate student. :expressionless: I logged back into my housing application and in the room section it shows nothing where before it showed I would be in SLC! >:P I don’t want to live in Hilgard and I don’t think I would be able to afford it anyways considering it’s a single. Is this just a mistake or should I submit a room change request? The problem is that if it is a mistake and I submit a room change I would be changing my SLC double, which I want to keep, rather than the Hilgard. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing as I am? What should I do? Is this a problem UCLA has to fix? Find out next time on Dragon Ball Z!!

No really though if anyone could provide some insight on my situation I would deeply appreciate it :slight_smile:

@Faduku My also says Hilgard. I believe it says all on campus as Hilgard as that is what they are basing all on campus living prices to be. If your dorm is more expensive, then they require you to cover the extra cost.

A few things I noticed from my financial aid

  1. Calgrant went down from Estimated $12,804 to $12,240. Did that happen to everyone?
  2. UCSHIP also went down from $2,229 to $1,930. Looks like 1930 was for last years rate but I read online that the price was going up this year.
  3. My cost of attendance out of pocket is the same even though the Cal grant is significantly lower.

Call the housing office and ask. They always answer. Why speculate?

For some reason, FWS was removed from my eFAN?

@History2Law, I got an email from the Cal Grant people and my report from them (not UCLA) said I qualify for a Cal Grant of around $13,804, but my Cal Grant on the eFAN also went down. According to the award notification, the Cal Grant amount is subject to change on the eFAN.

Has anyone’s transcripts not been marked as received on myUCLA? I sent mine over a few weeks ago and nothing has been marked as received. I know they’re likely busy, but I just wanted to be sure other people are in the same boat and it’s not something I did wrong.

Btw, for people whose housing is doing something weird–I went to go check my housing application and got an error message that says “Housing currently has no record of your admission/employment status. If you believe this is an error please contact Housing Services at http://ask.housing.ucla.edu.” Maybe something’s wrong with the website?

@Stevieindb
The increase will most likely be in the form of loans. If you have federal loans left, they’ll do that, if not, they’ll offer you private loans.

Uhh…I’m getting a grant for UCSHIP now? Did the FA office make a mistake?

Edit: also, mine also says Hilgard houses

I’m wondering if there is a mistake…since I got a UC SHIP grant?

If I would to decline fws, would it increase my amount in loans? Or would that been done by contacting the financial aid office?

Also, is anyone showing a Middle Class Scholarship?

@History2Law

  1. CalGrant went down because the maximum a student is allowed to receive is now $12,240. It was originally higher when the tuition was expected to increase.

http://www.calgrants.org/index.cfm?navid=11

  1. USHIP grant went down because the price did NOT increase as it was expected to. The price for USHIP will be the same as it was for 2014 - 2015, which is $1,930.86

http://www.studenthealth.ucla.edu/CustPages/Insurance.aspx

  1. We have to remember that the numbers for our grants / scholarships were going to DECREASE because the expected tuition / rate increase did NOT happen.

@LuckyName My out of pocket is still the same so I am grateful for that. I saw people on the FB transfer page complaining about the decrease in aid but I don’t think any of them noticed that their cost after grants is still the same.

Thanks for the info!

haha… and here i am getting 6k in grant ( went down from 15k). :smiley:

@Stevieindb is yours showing the middle class scholarship?

anoyone else cant access their housing app?

@angled A significant amount of people on the UCLA Facebook group also stated that they are having issues accessing the housing app.

@angled what exactly does it say?
