Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

@Ellie64 thank you for explaining that!

Thanks @Happy2Help and @lindyk8 looks like a double in CogSci is a no go, which is too bad. As @platocrat mentioned, I’m leaning toward some sort of computational pschology field, and I thought the programming background in CogSci would help…but probably a minor will be just as good.

Thanks everyone! I think I’ll have a sit down with an advisor and see what their advice is. Maybe a Psychology BA with a specialization in computing and a CogSci minor is all I really need (plus research experience and related ECs)

@UCLA17 I parked in Lot 3 and had no problems

That sounds like a good plan, actually @luckie1367.

Thanks!

Honestly, I think I’m getting a bit ahead of myself. I probably won’t decide for real until after 1 or 2 quarters.

I need help deciding between a deluxe triple and deluxe double. I’ve been in triple dorms for my freshman and sophomore years at UC Santa Cruz so I’ve already experienced what that’s like and I hate having tensions come up about which bed everyone wants which makes the double more appealing. What, aside from number of people, are differences between the double and triple? Is it worth it to go from a triple to a double and pay ~$400 more?

I have about 4 possible schedules to show the NSAs tomorrow, when I add them to my classes planner it says the class is full or closed. But I shouldn’t worry since they have seats reserved for new students right?

@UCLA17, that’s how it was last year but I have no idea how this year is going, since the first session seemed to head south quite quickly. But one would assume they corrected the snafus. I wouldn’t worry until you have to. But maybe you should have a few more than four options in either case. The worst thing is to be scrambling, trying to find a course at the last minute, with the professor not vetted, etc.

Speaking of SNAFUs, I got an email back saying they had been fixed and my requested changes had been made.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!! I hope you all have fun

Are minors even necessary? Is the purpose of a minor to show you have some background in something outside of your major?

@luckie1367 you mean you got into some B courses?

I did!

@lindyk8 makes sense thank you

@luckie1367 yay!

I also just got an email about Transfer Transitions, anybody planning to attend?

So exhausted from orientation, I have a headache!

Got all the best courses for myself from what was available, but there wasn’t anything great available for Political Science Majors

Congrats @UCLA17!

Make sure you drink some water, I came home from the day really dehydrated

That was exhausting. Such a pain to try to get credit for equivalent courses.

So how was 202?

Very curious to hear!!

Great! All things considered. My primary criticism is the day is just far too long and course registration could be much smoother. However, student experiences at orientation are probably going to widely vary by the popularity and impaction of your major, the number of open courses offered in your major, the NSA you’re paired with, and your department advisor.

But frankly, there really is no way to predict whether or not you’ll have options. Even students with non-impacted, not so popular majors, were left with few courses to choose from-- if any at all. So, prepare yourself to be flexible. Many of the courses you’re interested in, will be offered again in the fall.

Finding a third elective course is a struggle for everybody-- have plenty of alternatives.

Few of the workshops were really all that helpful, tbh. You might want to use that time to plan your schedule or meet other people instead.

As for my major, gender studies, our department advisor was WONDERFUL. And I got all the classes I needed.

It was super fun and I think they worked out many of the issues from session 201, but it was just really exhausting. Prepare accordingly.
