Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

I was reading on Facebook that this was the first time in 7 years that they had to implement a wait-list.

@lindyk8
Priority goes to the disabled students, commuting students, and faculty. Good luck if you’re on campus or living in an off-campus apartment, lol

@Cayton how about people with jobs?

Hey guys, just an update on my situation (I’m the guy whose FAN was very different from my initial estimates). As it turns out, the whole thing was my fault; the Financial Aid Office told me that the reason I “lost” most of my grants was because I submitted my FAFSA later than March 2.

I’m still pretty upset about this whole fiasco because I chose UCLA based on these estimates, knowing full-well that I submitted a late FAFSA. But I didn’t think they would include all the grants in the estimate if they didn’t feel I should expect them more than not. In fact, the grants were never a possibility for me, so I don’t know why they even bothered to tell me they were. I really feel tricked here, but I admit I could have done more in the way of asking them. Don’t know why it never crossed my mind.

I might still be able to make the situation work, but I’ll be having to commute and hour and a half each way, with no parking pass. And this really kills the whole UCLA life thing for me as well (at least for this year).

Thanks to everyone who helped at all!

Ah, I’m sorry @shaneLer :frowning:

I can’t believe the parking situation is so FUBAR…There has got to be some type of program of spot sharing. Like, if someone needs the spot 9-3, someone else 3-8 and I have it overnight, we could drastically improve the # of spots :frowning:

@luckie1367
If I recall correctly, people with jobs on campus are higher up on the priority list.

Also, I love UCLA and all, but little things about the school, like parking, will begin to annoy you, as they did for me and most other UCLA students. You’ve had a good first taste of them, but you’ll see more of it as you move onto campus and begin life there. C’est la vie at UCLA. :slight_smile:

I’m sure you guys received this email from the New Student and Transition program talking about the housing, campus life, etc. It stated that “Within the next month you should be receiving your finalized housing details – including type of building and then the specific building, followed by your roommates’ information and specific room assignment.”

Does this mean our housing is still subject to change? :frowning:

Also, are we required to complete another online course besides “Think About It”? Under the link of Transfer Next Steps it says AlcoholEdu opens up for Freshman and Transfer students on Monday, August 17th.

-Never mind, I believe we have to take it, there’s a registration code required for transfers to enroll in the course.

AlcoholEdu is recommended but optional.

@UCLA17 I think sometimes it can change (ie double to triple)

Under one of my courses it states the instructor is “The Staff”, do any of you know what that means? Lol

From what I know “Staff” either means it will be taught by a TA or they haven’t decided/uploaded who will be teaching the class yet. One of my classes said staff at first but now the teacher was updated. :slight_smile:

@ucla17, they haven’t finalized whose teaching it yet. Sometimes you can at least narrow it down by seeing who taught previous terms.

@onmyway8 @lindyk8 silly me, that makes sense, thank you!

Still no parking email…

Hey guys, I noticed all the new football recruits say “4s Up” and people on twitter say it all the time for UCLA. Im pretty sure its just 8 clap. Does anyone know the origin and if it really does mean 8 clap? i can’t find anything online

Its the hand sign (4 fingers w/o the thumb, think wolverine), which I think comes from the bruin bear only having 4 fingers?

Last year’s football recruits came up with this. Show 4 with both hands and it means 8 clap.

If we’re living on campus, microwave and fridge aren’t included right? But there’s an option to rent one, and split it with your roommates correct?
