Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

@by3000 IGETC only requires two years of the same language in high school with at least a C- or better for the final course. Now, your major or department may have additional requirements, but two years fulfills IGETC.

@luckie1367. we got (probably) the same cool decals last year. The blue ones? I loved them! We kept them on our cars all year - up until a couple months ago. We bought some for Cal and they were really bad, the kind that have a million bubbles when you put them on. I had to pull mine off. (Although I will say I didn’t follow the intricate rules for attachment – similar to cell phone screen protectors that only the genius bar people at Apple can put on.)

Berkeley starts next Wednesday. It’s such a drag, really, that you have to wait so long.

Yep, @lindyk8, you described them perfectly! They are super cute, I’ve already put one on my car!

I’m so excited for you daughter though!

Since I’m smack dab in the middle of my last summer class, its no so much about the classes starting that I’m excited about, but the campus being full of people, and games, and activities, and parties and all the really fun stuff 8->

about on-campus dining with our meal plans, our meal plans are only useable in the four (I think there are four?) “dining halls” and then there are a few other restaurant type places on the hill where certain items count as a swipe. I don’t believe they are useable on the main campus anywhere unless you trade a swipe for a meal voucher to be used on campus, but I believe the meal vouchers are worth like 3 bucks. Craziness.

Just stopping in here to let everyone know right now that move-in day for on-campus students is gonna be hectic as fuck. Prepare yourselves. UCLA tries to run it as smoothly as they can, but they could do better lol

:-SS

This made me laugh: http://socawlege.com/25-signs-you-go-to-ucla/

I contribute to #8 every time I’m on campus :))

^^^ It’s week 1! Midterms next week!

That sentence pretty much sums up summer sessions

Ahhh, that 25 signs article is definitely on point.

I will say, though, that midterms in week 2 mostly seem to happen in some south campus majors, like biology. For everyone else, they’ll happen in weeks 4-6.

@luckie1367
Yeah, I had a class in summer session A last month that assigned a paper to be due by the middle of second week. This summer session I’m in now isn’t doing midterms, thankfully. Just periodic papers and final exam papers.

How are your summer session classes going so far?

Ahhhh…only okay to be honest. I’m felt a bit in over my head, especially in Session A, but it seems to be getting better. I definitely went in a bit cocky and got knocked down a few very quickly… b-( b-(

I think I’ll be feeling much better once I’m living on campus.

Thank you for asking! I hope we pass each other one day @Cayton

@UCLA17 @lindyk8 @luckie1367, thanks so much! Puts me at ease a little more (:

Also, does anybody happen to know if your HS GPA for a foreign language affects your college GPA whatsoever for admissions? I understand a C- or higher is considered passing and can satisfy your IGETC as you guys answered earlier in the thread, but I talked to two counselors and they both told me something different, so I’m trying to see what you might’ve heard or if anyone knows anything about it!

@luckie1367
If you can handle summer session classes, even if they aren’t going fantastically, then I think you’ll be able to handle the quarter system classes just fine. They’re not as bad, of course, and you’ll have an edge in acclimatizing yourself to UCLA-level classes before starting the academic year. 3 classes in a quarter isn’t actually that bad to start off with.

And if you ever see a somewhat short black guy around the areas of Dodd Hall or Bunche building, that’s probably me since my classes are in those areas usually. :slight_smile:

@by3000 I believe that passing the courses satisfies the requirements and doesn’t affect your CC GPA, because I never put in the grades for those foreign language classes on my UC applications or sent UCLA my HS transcripts once I was admitted.
I’m a Political Science major too, so if you have any questions let me know!

Just checked my Bruin Bill and I have a NEGATIVE balance of over 2,000 dollars… Does anyone else seem to have this?

Never mind, I figured it out. But if you check your BruinBill it shows you what you will owe on the 20th of September or what will be disbursed back to you.

@by3000 hs grades are not calculated into the GPA. Additionally, you will be admitted (or not) before they even see the grade, as you won’t send in transcripts until after you are accepted. Their only concern will be that you got a C- or higher.

@lindyk8 thanks so much! That’s what I was thinking also.

Oops, that was supposed to be “I’ve felt” not “I’m felt”, yikes.

Awww, thanks @Cayton! I appreciate you saying that! If I see you I’ll say hello :slight_smile:

@by3000 I agree with the other posters. I never put any HS grades on my transfer app, they just want to see that you passed.
