Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

Alright guys, just to kill time and keep my stress level down. Can anybody give me some ideas regarding my chance ?

Type: International transfer from a OOS CC in WA
Major: Mechanical Engineer
Applied campus: Berkeley and LA
Cumulative GPA: 3.95 (due to couple PE classes) / Major GPA: 3.98 / 135 quarter credits earned by the end of Spring
Prereq: Physics series, Chem series, Calculus, Diff eq & linear Algebra. 3 courses of statics, dynamics and strength materials. I think I satisfy pretty much all prereq for Berkeley but missing one Computer Science class for LA.
Essay: I would say 8 to 8.5/10 since it is revised by 3 different professors.
E.C: I think this is my weak point. STEM Tutor at my CC roughly 10 hours/week. Peer leader for new international students during orientation. Have another silly job 5 hours/week but I quit.

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated :).

135 units is over every unit cap.
How many lower division units do you have? Calculate and top at 105 qtr. Then add the upper division. Hopefully your a bit lower than these top numbers.

Here is the chart.

Your other drawback is OOS, but assuming your units are workable, your stats look very good…

Do you have to finish the core classes at the time of the application? I will be finished with them at the end of the spring?

@lindyk8‌ The reason why I have so many units is because I’ve been in both college program and high school completion program at my college. Thanks
@engineer4life‌ I heard that you don’t have to. As long as you finish them by Spring quarter, you’re set.

So is 135 your actual units, calculating lower and upper division? Because that is over the UCLA transfer max and right on the nose for Berkeley. If that is the case, unfortunately, I have to say you will have a difficult time getting in to either school. Perhaps, upon analysis not all courses are transferable, but since you are OOS will they take the time to calculate?

If you only have 3-4 upper division you might be OK.

Hi everyone !
I have a question. Will they have a bruin day for transfer students ? and what day ?

@hbui7626‌ are you coming from a CC only?

@boy561 Yes, there is a transfer day at UCLA, but they haven’t released the date yet.

@luckie1367‌ yeah I only finished grade 10th and then jumped right into community college (kind of like a international running start).
@lindyk8‌ I guess all of my classes are lower division (my CC doesn’t offer any junior level classes), and a portion of them serve to satisfy my high school graduation requirement.

Oh, if you were only at a CC no worries. I thought you were also at a four-year. So, if only a community college, you’re golden. (Didn’t want to scare you, there… )

Bruin Transfer Day last year was May 10th so expect around that time.

@qaz1995‌ Yes I’m a business econ major. I talked to a counselor at my CCC multiple times and we checked every AP score on the UCLA AP score matrix, and they all convert. I earned an A in english 1A fall semester, and am currently enrolled in English 1B, so I have both of the english (crit and comp). 49.7 is the conversion to IGETC. The key thing here is that I will have IGETC completed as well as every major requirement by the end of this Spring. Yes I get credit for both Calc 1 and stats through AP + they are both pre-major reqs. I am now enrolled in Calc II. If I’m IGETC certified then it’s okay, right?

Thank you guys for not helping me!!!

@enginer4life‌ take it easy. You don’t have to have them done at the time of application, but if applying for a competitive major, it is recommended. What major are you, and what does your assist page say?

Of course, you can always use your favorite search engine to look for yourself.

I get that this is a stressful time, but please remember that everyone on this forum has other stuff to do as well.

@enginer4life‌ CS is highly impacted and very low acceptance rate at UCLA, so do you have a backup plan to apply to additional UCs?

Did you participate in Mt. Sac’s Honors Program?

Yea I plan on applying to all UCs and yea I am Honors Program

What difference does it make if one applied to a UC (LA& Cal) with transcripts from both CC and a 4-year?
As opposed to an applicant with transcripts solely from a CC.

Thanks for clarifying.

@darren808 you might run into issues with the unit cap if you have a combination of CC and 4 year units.

If coming from only a CC, you can have an unlimited number of units, since they are all considered lower division (LD).

Does anyone here know what the required pre read for cognitive science are? On assist it lists says we should finish as many as we can, what does that mean?

I means that you don’t have to have them all finished by the time you transfer.

Major: MCDB (Secondary: Cognitive science)
GPA: 3.38
TAP: Yes
Prerequisite: missing o chem for MCDB. All Prereqs done for cognitive science.
Ecs: Volunteer at church, Chemistry Club officer, AGS honors society
Essay: 7/10

What do you think is my chance of acceptance. I have a pretty low gpa but I have TAP… That’s a plus right? :frowning:
