Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

@Melissa1995‌
Did you/ are you taking Statistics? You mentioned Sociology but not Stats.

Hey Everyone, i wish you guys can take a look at my stats and tell me what do you think about my chances of getting in UCLA? It has been my dream school for three years. BTW, im not a Cal CC student and my school’s ranking is 40+ in US in terms of US News.

Major: communication (A high selective major. The profile shows the average admitted GPA last year was 3.92)

I am really worried about transferring from out of state would decrease my odds getting into UCLA.

I’ll join the bandwagon

Do I have a chance to get in for my major?

@RazerShield‌ Hey there. Completed at time of applying or by Spring '15? Do you have a job? You’ve got a great shot.

@TonyStark93‌ Yes, Math/Econ isn’t as impacted as Biz/reg econ. I think your gpa is on par. Did you have reqs finished at time of applying or complete by IP/complete spring’15

@Sustenance‌

I’m taking Calculus 2 right now.

I’m missing Calculus 3, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations.

Is that bad?

@TonyStark93‌ Yeah dude, I just checked assist.org. Those are 3 major requirements. and calc ii is still in progress… However, it does not say that the major is impacted (like biz econ) I don’t know if you need all those finished at time of applying. missing 3 major reqs is kind of big, so I don’t know to be honest.

@Sustenance‌

By Spring. Full time student, no job

How are my chances? 3.56 GPA and I’m going for History. I’ve completed IGETC and I’ve finished 2 out of the 3 major requirements with A’s. The last major requirement is currently in progress and will be done by the end of this semester. I’ve done half of my units at a 4-year university and the other half at a community college. I have more units at my community college though.

@2016Candles‌ Yes, I finished all my pre reqs for Soc. @Cayton‌ Thanks so much, I appreciate your advice! :slight_smile:

@Melissa1995‌

No problem.

@luckie1367‌

I try, but UCLA eats up a lot of my time lol.

And my advice ain’t so sagely. I just get it from observations and public sources on the Internet(using assist.org should be obligatory for all transfer applicants).

You’ve been helping around here quite a bit yourself. I commend you for that.

@RazerShield‌ was just curious about the job. I think you’ve got an excellent shot tbh. that gpa is right on the money, a tad bit higher even. Only problem is, like you mentioned: They likely use anything they can to weed people out of impacted majors (especially the econ dept) the number of econ/biz econ applicants is staggering and disheartening.

question if i get in with my alternate non impacted major, am i able to change to another non impacted major easily? or would it depend on the amount of missing major pre reqs and gpa? I want to get admitted with math/econ but for that im missing 4 pre reqs :confused:

Yes, everything you said is accurate. It would be the missing pre-reqs and there may possibly be a limited time frame to do it.

was anyone successful on changing majors with a lot of missing pre reqs?

I don’t know that. Someone else might have a better idea. If you really are intent on this I might suggest taking two of the pre-reqs at CCC summer school to get a head start. Another factor you need to consider is you will have last dibs getting into classes req for the major. Others will have preference, so if you could get some completed beforehand, it would help.
