The wait for UCLA admissions has been such an anxiety inducing experience.
I just wanted to hear some feedback from the community on what they think my chances are.
I’m mentally preparing myself to be rejected so that I won’t be too bummed if that’s the case.
GPA: 3.53 (fall grades included, showed upward trend from 3.1 -> 3.53)
Major: Pre-Cognitive Science
TAG: Yes- UCSB
TAP: Certified
IGETC: Completed
Pre-requisites: Missing 2 by Spring 2015, Math 1B & CS 1C.
I stated in my app that I’d take those two courses in summer, but looking back in hindsight, I’ll probably just take Math 1B over the summer.
EC: Listed my many leadership positions in high school (ASB, Class VP, Varsity Tennis Captain, Interact Board Member, etc) but didn’t have too many during college. I worked part-time for the majority of my time in CCC, which I stated in my app. I also volunteer 2-3x a month at my local temple.
Essay: First prompt 7/10, talked about tutoring autistic children.
Second prompt 9/10, honestly one of the best essays I’ve written. Talked about mom having cancer in HS, caused depression, left HS a year early via CHSPE to attend CC and rebuild academic career.
Applied: UCSB, UCLA, UCB
Acceptance: UCSB
I understand that your guys’ comments are merely observations from past trends, but I feel some outside perspective would alleviate some stress and give some closure. Thanks in advance!
As Im sure you are aware, this whole process of waiting is extremely brutal. I know economics is extremely competitive but I just wanted your guys opinion of my chances and how bad that C is gonna affect me since it is one of the few pre-reqs for the major. THANK YOU!
GPA: 3.84 (All A’s except for one C in Calc 2)
Major: Economics
TAG: Yes- UCI
TAP: Certified
IGETC: Completed
Pre-requisites: Completed
Hi everyone,
This waiting period is ridiculous lol! Cant believe how they expect us to be doing well in spring term and sitting on fire cuz of their decisions. Sorry i’m kinda going off the conversation here but i have been a bit too nervous about it so i was wondering if someone can please chance me lol: THANK YOU
GPA: 4.0 overal
Major: Biochemistry (impacted)
TAG: no
TAP: no
IGETC: Complete by summer 2015
Pre-requisites: Complete by spring 2015
EC: UCLA MEDPEP Premedical program, LABiomed Research Fellowship (summer 2013)
Volunteer service: Hospital clinical volunteer (6hr weekly)
Work exp: peer advisor on campus for a year, Chemistry and calculus tutor for a year and STEM Ambassador ( doing presentation to advocate for the study of science)
Essay: i can’t rate my essay but i provided honest reason for my major as i switched from engineering to biochem. Was proofread multiple times by counselor, premed program and medical doctor.
Applied: UCLA, UCB, UCI, UCR
Additional info: I started at CCC Fall 2014 and have been consistently taking 18 units (max) every semester as well.
I wish tomorrow is April 17th ( hopefully that would be the day) so we don’t have to wait anymore. It would be crazy if Berkeley and LA have the same admissions date. Getting rejection letters from both of them on the same day would be the worse thing ever
@davisgirl April 17th is a likely date because last year it was April 18th (a Friday). So based on that, April 17th (also a Friday) is a likely date for this year. However, it could be like you said anytime on or before UCB’s date of April 24th.
@cs2015 thank you for opinion. I was only worried cuz i heard some high GPA transferers were rejected from UCLA for College of Letters and Science that’s why.
@Npham95 That’s understandable, you can never be too sure with schools like UCLA! I noticed you don’t have TAP, but I think your extracurriculars and work experience make up for it! I would definitely admit you if I were an admissions officer! I am also applying to the College of Letters and Science and I do not have half the extracurrculars you have, nor do I have a 4.0, nor do I have TAP. So if someone in your standing doesn’t get in, I might as well forget about my chances lol. Good luck!! The wait is killing me!
@cs2015 would you mind if i ask what major you are applying for? if it’s not impacted, chances are you may just stand a fair game :)! yea…a month left is hella long!
So i just realized i have this one problem. When i was applying for transfer, i was also applying for a summer program 2015. If accepted, i would not be able to complete the IGETC by summer 2015; but if rejected, i would. I did put this on my app. at this moment, i found out i was rejected and thus will be able to complete IGETC summer 2015. How do i let UCLA know of this? as i read that admission to college of letters and science highly recommends completion of IGETC as well.
@Npham95 I’m a bio major! I have a 3.93, so my GPA isn’t bad, I just don’t have TAP or many extracurriculars (other than some from high school and one volunteer opportunity I got at a research lab). Also, I did all of my prerequisites based on UCSDs assist.org and noticed that UCLA requires a different calculus sequence! I’m hoping the calculus sequence I took will be fine too…
And I’m not sure about your other question. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard that completing major prereqs is more important than the IGETC for UCLA… But I’m sure you can email admissions and let them know your IGETC will definitely be completed by summer 2015 now.
@cs2015 thanks for your response! I’m planning to call them and update them on it since i can’t find the email i should use to contact them. I have heard many got to UCLA missing one or two prereg so let’s just hope you are one of those cases. Good luck!
