Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

@tropical9999 I got mine via e-mail. I had e-mailed them with a question and, in their response, I received my UID.

I was able to APPLY for housing. Does this mean UCLA is coming out today? Are any of you guys able see a similar message?

@cassinthesky Ok thanks! So should I email them asking for my UID?

@anxious2transfer was your major changed to your alternate in your portal? Also, TAP does not help at all for comm. Don’t quote me on this but, apparently, the comm department networks with nearby feeder schools (like SMC), and has told those counselors that listing an alternate major is actually (essentially) rejection because it shows that you are not as committed to the major. So, they accept those without TAP first, which unfortunately typically leaves no room for others who are just as qualified. However, I cannot be entirely sure that this is what’s happening. It’s just information I heard yesterday from a current UCLA Comm student, and I guess UCLA Comm’s admissions process is rather secretive. I’m also a comm major but my major was changed to Anthropology BA in the portal yesterday, and I’m TAP Certified with a 3.93 gpa, the maximum amount of EC’s (directly related to comm), maximum amount of volunteer work, and awards I could list. I also took more honors classes than I needed to be TAP Certified, finished all prereqs offered at my cc, and had my personal statements read by UCLA faculty and comm department chairs at my college. But just breathe, and I wish you the best of luck!

@cassinthesky
Major: English
UC GPA: 3.95
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Yes
Tap: in the program, but I haven’t completed it yet so I doubt it matters.
EC: little volunteer work, but I’ve worked either full time or had 2 jobs all through school, one of which is related to my major.

What about you?

Tropic, you don’t need to ask for it specifically, it automatically comes with any email correspondence you have with them. Check any emails you received from them since you applied.

@angled nope. You wouldn’t be able to if they just received it because I’m assuming it hasn’t been processed (if you’re admitted).

How did you make your UID? It says you need your student ID number, which I don’t have.

@psych95 that text appears to be the continuing or returning student housing info. Several pages back in the thread, someone already posted it.

All I can see is my application ID number… Is that the same thing ?

I emailed them a while ago about a schedule change and they didn’t include my UID in the response. They only included an email ID and and application ID. Granted, even if I knew my UID, I doubt I’d want to check this late into the admissions process. It’d suck to think I see a sign of admission and then get rejected. :stuck_out_tongue:

@olivia1093 I know you’re just speculating, but I do not think being TAP certified automatically rejects you from an impacted major like comm. If that was the case why would they even give TAP students the option to list an alternate major? They only have so many spots in impacted majors, and some people don’t make the cut but get into their alternate major, which is the whole point of TAP and having the option to even get into a second major Instead of a flat out rejection.

@Thiger Listing an alternate major allows you to enhance your transfer strength to UCLA itself, and Comm Studies is NOT TAP Certified because the applications are reviewed by comm faculty, in comparison to other majors that are reviewed by traditional admissions officers. It’s not my personal speculation. Again, I’m just repeating information from a current UCLA Comm student, which means that I am not 100 percent certain that this is the case. TAP helps students get into UCLA as an alternate major regardless of whether or not you listed an impacted major as your first choice, but it does not help you get into Comm studies specifically.

@LM1993

Anthro B.A.
3.68
IGETC = done
3/4 prereqs done
TAP = nope
EC = was president of Club TaeKwonDo at SFSU, starred in a few plays in high school, other than that, worked full time.
Awards = lots of TKD awards, Academic Decathlon awards from High School, AP Scholar with Distinction
Personal Statements: Pretty solid - I would consider them to be very unique, as well.
Additionally, I had 4 W’s because I had to drop a semester to work full-time or my family would have lost our house. I explained this, and then came back the next semester and got a 4.0, so I think that would count as an upward grade trend. I talked about it in my additional comments.

I’m just afraid because of that missing pre-requisite. It’s been a rather terrible time the past 2 years for me so getting in to UCLA would really just be the closure I need to know that I can actually do something awesome with my life, rather than the opposite which I had been thinking due to prior circumstances. :slight_smile:

I don’t think its coming out today :(( :(( :(( :(( :((

@Salmanthgr8 Neither did anyone last year right up until a few hours before it did: they can always post it soon! I just can’t see them releasing on the same day as Berkeley - if you were a good UC, wouldn’t you want people to be stoked about getting into you, rather than having to share it with another awesome school? Kind of dwindles down the hype for UCLA.

I just can’t believe they haven’t sent anything out yet or made any announcements any where

@db1394 Yeah, it sure does feel like they would’ve, but since they didn’t last year, I don’t see that as a definitive “not today”.

Also, when I log into my UCLA housing profile thingy (StarRez), it has me classified as an “Undergraduate Returner”, which would kind of make sense for a transfer.

Ive literally been waiting for this day since I started at my CC. If its not today, these next 7 days are going to feel like 7 years
