Fall 2016 Transfer Thread - Cornell University

@thenarddog1 That is so nice of you! You have no idea how relieved I am to hear this from someone, my family supports and respects my decisions but I can always tell they don’t expect much and that can hurt your confidence :frowning: Thanks for this :slight_smile: Are you also applying?

@blackwidow22
You are about as competitive as I would expect most of the pool to be. You’ve got decent hooks as well. I hope your essays get across your very unique experience as an undocumented immigrant.

This is an offhand comment: I had the (dis)pleasure of meeting the President of Ozarks Technical CC. He’s quite the waffle of a man.

@Burdened oh my god LOL. Interesting, he is actually really respected at OTC, I haven’t actually had anyone (student or faculty) ever say anything like that about him?..maybe he changed?

@blackwidow22
He was applying for a chancellorship in one of the community college districts in California (as he did in 2014) and I was invited by a friend to meet Mr. Davis. I should stress that he was a nice guy but he definitely didn’t win people over during his interview forums.

Looking forward to riding out the next few months with everyone:

Recommendations: excellent one from research advisor that affirms my interests in the major, great one from community service advisor, Average one from bio professor

Other: First generation college student

Reason for transfer: current university doesn’t have a program that allows students to explore factors that affect human development; explained in essay how I utilized research and volunteering at my university to explore my interests, but now need comprehensive program to further grow. Also mentioned specific professor I’d like to get involved in, specific classes, etc. Hope I conveyed my fit well enough :\

Any thoughts? Really nervous, but excited to go give it a shot! Cornell is really the dream.

@AnovaMK You sound really competitive. How many credits do you currently have?

@NjTransfer2016 Thanks! I’m taking 17 credits right now. Took 15 last semester and came in with 26 from AP scores and other transfer credits. Applying as an incoming sophomore.

Did everyone send standardized test scores? Is it a must? These apps are getting to be quite expensive :frowning:

@newopportunities I didn’t send it to ILR since it wasn’t a must but if your scores are high I would definitely send them in. I mean, it wouldn’t hurt right?

@NjTransfer2016 I think we have to send all of them in, and my first score was HORRIBLE :frowning: I feel like it would really hurt me, so if I don’t have to, I don’t think I will

@Burdened Oh I see now. I can see how you would get that lol

Do you all think it might be helpful to visit after submitting apps? Also, did anyone turn in IDOC or CSS?

@newopportunities I don’t know if it is helpful to visit after submitting, perhaps before would have been best.
I turned in CSS already. I submitted like 3 days ago my app though, so I haven’t gotten an email confirmation from Cornell that they’ve received my app yet with the applicant portal info. But I did submit IDOC already for different universities, so when Cornell needs it, it will be already done.

When did you guys receive the email from Cornell? I did submit the app on Saturday, so it was over the weekend.

@blackwidow22 I submitted on Feb 23rd, and received my applicantID on the 25th. Since you submitted over the weekend, I’d imagine they’ll give you one very soon!

@AnovaMK Okay thanks!! I just didn’t know the time frame since I got the email from other schools right away :smiley:

Did anyone get transfer option from Cornell? I got it last year and I submitted my transfer option application to Human Ecology.
I got a 3.82 in hunter college for the first year. According to transfer option, I just need to get over 3.3 GPA and take the required courses. Does anyone know when the result will be out?

b

Does anyone know when the midyear reports should be in by?

“March 15th”

@IULover I have the option to CALS, i don’t know when your results will be out, but for CALS they same sometime mid-april. I’m assuming that most of those decisions will be sent out then
