Fall 2016 Transfer Thread - Cornell University

Sooo I’ve been looking at the past years’ threads for CAS and I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’ll probably get rejected or we’re all about to break some trends here. Of the people who posted on CC, only 11 were accepted in 2015, 7 in 2014, and 10 in 2013. So far this year 6 people have already been accepted into CAS from this thread (two of them GT’s). Here’s to hoping for a record number of acceptances on CC this year!

@Artixreed I know!! It feels good!!! Good luck to all of you!!

@hp2trnsfr that sounds horrified.

I think it all depends with how many applicants have already accepted the offer. If few have, then most of us atleast have a chance of being accepted if not then we just have to be ready for whatever happens.

Just joined the thread. Hoping to hear back from CAS soon!

Still haven’t heard back from ILR so far, application has been reviewed for 2 weeks.
No phone calls, no rejection or acceptance letter last week

hey how many people do they accept as transfers to Cornell? they accept around 700 people noh?

@transfergirl96 yea I read somewhere the amount was around 600 hundred or so. But each college has their own rate of acceptances. Where did you apply?

@transfergirl96 Yes they accept around 700. But different school has dramatically different admission rates. For human ecology, it could go above 50% but for CAS or Engineering or SHA, it’s normally below 10%

hmm I applied for Biological Sciences, where does that fall under?

Is arts and Sciences CAS?

Yes, College of Arts and Sciences = CAS

When do they send the pin? I haven’t received any yet. :frowning:

@MechCornell 10am on Tuesdays only. But you can reset yourself before that

Has anyone ever been accepted to a different college than the one they applied for? For example if someone applied CAS, but got admitted to CALS for a similar major?

Since someone in the Johns Hopkins thread asked I figured they could also be useful here.

Stats:

High School GPA: 3.96
High School Rank: 8/400 or 1/400 (we had one scale where we didn’t factor in freshman year, and I changed high schools after freshman year and my previous high school didn’t have AP classes so that murdered my GPA on the other scale)
ACT: 31 (Composite); I don’t remember the specific subsections except my science score was like 25 lol.

Current College: University of Texas at Austin - McCombs School of Business (Accounting)
GPA: 3.8

EC’s:
McCombs Leadership Program
Men’s Club Volleyball
Gateway Scholars
College Republicans
University Securities Investment Team (a finance/accounting org)

Essays:
Common App reason for transferring: 10/10. I’ve had terrible experiences at UT and UT doesn’t offer good opportunities for politics outside of Texas. Etc etc many other reason also.
Johns Hopkins Essay: Talked about the Aitchison Fellowship as well as the happiness factor about Johns Hopkins.
Recommendation Letters:
Didn’t read of course but both of my professors were really supportive of me. I’m doing archaeological research with one over the summer. Both probably close to 10/10. Awesome guys.

Submitted AP Scores:
5 5’s, 3 4’s 2 3’s and a 2 (hello world)

Weaknesses: ACT Score
Strengths: Very good reason for transferring. Good fit with Johns Hopkins. Came from the best accounting program in the nation. Personal story.

General tip: There is nothing to separate you from the other 1000 people applying except for your essays. Do not take them lightly. I guarantee that the only reason I’ve been accepted to such amazing institutions is because of those essays and my personal story. I’m not saying look for things to nitpick at by any means, but I stressed how unhappy UT made me in all of my essays to colleges. If you demonstrate a passion and potential then argue that your current university is holding you back, it peaks the curiosity of admissions officers.

@hp2trnsfr and @AimHighandFight , I applied for CAS, I am an international student seeking for Aid and I have a 4.0 GPA and 1600 SAT. So far I haven’t received any updates from Cornell. But they are still in the process of sending both acceptances and rejections right?

@transfergirl96 I think most international students will hear back next Tuesday. There will be a mix of acceptances and rejections

@transfergirl96 Yup they’re still sending out acceptances and rejections. We find out every Tuesday. Good luck!
