I made an account just to post this because I am very worried.
So, I received an email stating that I was denied from the CoE because I had not completed my prerequisites. However, this is not true, as the 3+2 program that I am doing ensures that I have done all of my prereqs and I confirmed it myself. The only thing that may have caused a problem would be the lack of an English course on my transcript that I did not need to take because I received AP credit for it. UMich confirmed that they received my AP scores though, and my AP scores are high enough to where I would receive credit for the English requirement.
I have emailed multiple people about it and am still waiting on a response. However, I’m afraid that is going to be one of those “Sorry, try again next year” outcomes as these things usually go. I don’t think it’s fair that I was denied because of not completing prereqs when I had them all done by last year.
Can anyone give me some advice on what I should do? /:
Got accepted into aerospace as a transfer, last week Sunday (may 21st). When applied my gpa was a 3.92, was in a couple clubs. Took statics cal3 phy2 and c for engineers spring semester and taking DE now for the summer. Came from a CC
Now I’m deciding upon USC astronautical engineering and umich aerospace. Any suggestions?
Just got rejected from the College of Engineering for Computer Science BSE.
A little bit about myself:
Current School: Saginaw Valley State University
ACT: 36 (English 36, Math 35, Reading 35, Science 36)
College GPA: 4.00
Prerequisite Completion: All required courses except for Linear Algebra
Standing: Just finished my freshman year
Total credits: 54
High School GPA: 4.19 Weighted and 3.93 Unweighted
High School Class Rank: 16/285
5 AP’s (Bio, Chem, Calc, Lit, Lang)
EC’s: 1 week watershed revitalization trip in North Carolina, part-time university math and physics tutor, part-time co-op with The Dow Chemical Company, an ‘Hour of Code’ host at my local high school, top ranked state powerlifter, and member of the democratic club at SVSU.
I am not comfortable with sharing my essays on here, but had them reviewed by a software engineer at Google and writing tutors at SVSU and both thought they were excellent.
The explanation for the decision in my email is as follows:
The transfer admission decision involves many factors including the rigor of your college courses and the grades achieved in those courses, including successful completion of all prerequisites. We also consider an applicant’s personal characteristics, background, and essay responses. Regretfully, we feel that the University of Michigan is not an appropriate match for your unique credentials and academic achievements.
I am not particularly certain why I wasn’t a strong enough applicant to be admitted, but I am a little shaken up right now to say the least.
First bachelors degree from a small, OOS private university. GPA: 3.9
52 credits from OOS CC, including all prereqs minus computer programming, which I am completing this summer. GPA: 4.0
Essays were pretty standard, but well written IMHO.
2 solid recommendations.
ECs: Tutoring, part time summer employment, and community work.
The rejection email was vague and contained just about every conceivable reason, from “rigor of college courses” to “applicant’s background.” I’m quite certain that the prereq was the primary reason, but I don’t know.
Congratulations to all who were accepted, and good luck to those still waiting.
Just finished first year at Purdue University with 3.82/4.00 GPA (50 something credits including AP credits).
Completed all prerequisites except computer programming which was planning to take in the summer, but going to drop it as I can just take it during the Fall term at Purdue (I’m unsure if I submitted my AP scores, but I think it doesn’t matter as an admissions counselor said I should have all the prerequisites done by the time I start the Fall term).
High school GPA was about a 3.825
ACT 31
College Activities: Concert Band, Men’s Volleyball Club, Vietnamese Student Association (historian), MRI Research Project
Essays: I thought they were a little bit better than average, but I could be wrong
Recommendations: They were okay… (Really hard to find someone in college)
@DivergentScholar I received the same e-mail. I’m surprised that you were not accepted as well, but don’t be discouraged. Attending a great school vs. a good school all comes down to how much you put yourself out there in terms of experience and academics. Michigan is a great school, but it doesn’t determine everything.
-Recommendation letter from an award winning author for contributing in his book.
-Another recommendation from Calc 2 professor.
-Solid Essays.
I also received the same generic email. Btw I’m surprised to see so many people getting rejected this morning. I hate that we had to wait so long for this.
Hi everyone! I am currently going into my sophomore year at Penn State in the College of Information Sciences and Technology, and I am interested in transferring into UMich’s School of information for my Junior Year (Fall 2017 will be the first time external transfers can transfer directly into it). If anyone can chance me it will be greatly appreciated.
