Hi. I have something about courses after transfer.
I find that some courses which those 4-year students have taken in freshman and sophomore years are not offered in my cc. And these courses are also not required for transfer admission.
But it seems that those courses are quite important for my major as an engineer.
I wonder if lacking some courses will affect my preparation for the courses in the future.
Do transfer students need to make up those classes or UC’s have already thought about that? Will it takes more than 2 years for transfer students to graduate?
@luckie1367 Thanks, and what are the names of the transfer oriented residence halls so i don’t end up asking to live next to a bunch of freshmen? I believe I toured a transfer oriented residence hall that was multiple stories high and had this unique glass wall type of view on every floor. it was kind of a lounge area. I don’t remember the name however. I apologize for the crappy descriptions lol sound familiar at all? thanks
@UCLAFFF I got 2 Cs last year and I was fine. Just make sure to report the grades AFTER you get them. Everyone I’ve seen who got 2 Cs in the past has been fine, even in major related classes. However, highly impacted majors like Biz Econ, Communications, etc… You might have a problem. Oh how I was stressing about this last year. They also look at your GPA for spring quarter. Like if your overall GPA is a 3.8 and you got a 3.3-3.4 during spring, not really much concern there. But if you got like a 2.5, there’s a lot to be concerned about.
That being said, try to not get 2 Cs. It will save you a bunch of unnecessary stress.
Am I the only one who has more anxiety now that I’ve been accepted? Lol.
I was planning on living off-campus and moving with a friend (from NorCal), but am starting to realize that living on campus the first year would be better… Also, I have 3/7 of my prerequisites done, so I’d have to take 4 classes my first semester in order to get accepted into my major.
@intjer no! I have sooooo much anxiety!!! I hope I do not get rescinded, but then again I still am waiting on admission decisions from Stanford and Berk. If I get into Stanford, I am totes going!
admitted!
@Edirol Glad you got that worked out! Yes, you do have until Sep 1, but I always felt the earlier the better, especially if you already have it complete
@Charphilo This year it is De Neve Gardenia, but on the housing application you just have to indicate you want to live in the transfer themed community.
As @Happy2Help said, there are different admission contracts for different people. Some are very general (passing grades) and some are very specific (don’t get below a B in class XYZ). Make sure you double check YOUR OWN contract, and contact admissions if you have any questions.
Does anyone know if calc 3 is a major prep at UCLA for econ? I know At UCSD it is. I fear that this will be the first C I ever get in college!! :((
It’s astounding how many people (including myself) get Cs in their last quarter. It’s like we all saved the hardest classes for last. Either that or it’s just a psychological predisposition that we save the last quarter to do bad and jeopardize our admissions :))
I can feel the senioritis kicking after gaining admission. Bad quality, I know. But Calc 3 is a challenge and math really isn’t my strong suit…
@luckie1367 Seriously, thank you so much for even mentioning the IGETC thing. Mine is completed but I never thought to send that separately, I just figured my CC included it in the transcript.
hey guys, I made a thread about a dilemma I’m having. Check it out and let me know if you have any advice, I really trust your guys’ insight more than anyone else that I’ve asked so far.

Hey y’all.
I am going to appeal. My reasoning will be centered around my desire to stay local to continue the serve my community - I have major relationships and responsibilities with several grassroots organizations. One that includes protecting residents from eminent domain displacement, and another is my dedicated involvement in a traditional cultural group that serves the community in various ways. Both groups need me as much as I need them - and relocating would be a very difficult thing to do.
Are these good reasons for appeal?
I also will also make letters of recommendation available upon request.
Did anyone else just get invited to apply to the Transfer Alumni scholarship?
Did anyone else receive an invitation to the alumni scholarship? Or was that open to all?
I just got it, but I got invited for regents as well, so I don’t know if it is open to all.
Hey, thanks for your input. This is really good info to know. Were those courses you got C’s in major pre req courses by any chance?
@luckie1367 How do you apply to the honors program? The site says select the check box under honors in myucla?
@grimmghost - In MyUcla click on ‘New Students’ and there’s an honors application. I tried to apply and it says I didn’t qualify (I have a 4.0) I’m sure there are other reasons why I didn’t qualify but I am trying to find out exactly what those reasons are…
