FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

Does UCLA accept electronic transcripts?

@xenoplanet - They accepted mine from a local CC but the school sent it directly (I didn’t email it).

Some CCs have agreements with UCLA to accept electronic transcripts. The main point is that you order transcripts from the CC, and they send the transcript to UCLA.

Would you guys go to UCLA if you had to take over 50k in loans? Asking for a friend

Jk asking for my broke ass (I’m international)

Can you actually get that kind of loan? ~50 K each year? Would your parents be able to qualify for such a loan, given you are a traditional 20-something aged adult?

Please also check all the links here http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/international/finances/index.html

@happytohelp624 I think that you can get up to 90k in loans (crazy) as an international student if you have a legit us citizen co-signer. I aplied for this big private scholarship but I’m loosing my hope everyday I don’t hear back from them so I’m also loosing my hope to actually attend UCLA

Thanks!

Also I’m currently in a cc in the US so the whole transportation and visa thing is already figured out (regarding the link) @happytohelp624 :slight_smile:

@szafir what are your options?

Did you apply to CSUs?

ETA: Only you can make that decision to get a loan, as to whether it’s worth it. Some feel it’s worth it, some decide the loans are too much. What does your co-signer think?

guys, which school do you think I should go for?
UCLA communications vs. Cal media studies
help me please. :-S

My advisor told me I wasn’t able to apply to CSUs because I didn’t take political science so I didn’t apply (turned out I was able) but I applied to a few need based and need blind LACs. Haven’t heard from any of those yet tho. Thanks for your interest @happytohelp624 I definitely think that being that much in debt after undergrad school is insane but UCLA has 2nd best psych department in this country right after Stanford and even before Harvard (according to the Internet) so it makes it a little less insane… Or it doesn’t. I don’t know that’s why I asked for an outsider opinion.

@szafir @happytohelp624 when it comes to Psych, most Psych majors are gonna have to get a Master’s at leasttt. So it really doesnt matter where u go for undergrad, so I’d say pick the option you can afford, you’re gonna have to go to grad school anyway and that’s when the reputation of the school really matters.Especially if you have to take out huge loans for undergrad, better save up those loans for grad school, trust me.

Any thoughts on usc marshall vs. ucla biz econ?

@vvsharoom2016transfer
oh yeah i did list them all on the app already. I was just scared that theyd be picky about which ap they accept. Thanks so much :))

Does anyone know if you can send your official transcripts to UCLA electronically or is it required by mail?

is anybody picking between ucla and berkeley?? as a MCB or MCDB major?? Pre-med?? I NEED HELP DECIDING

Is there a way to choose exactly what kind of room you want to dorm in at UCLA? I really really want a single occupancy room but don’t know if I can request that with guarantee

Does any one know what the best on campus housing is? I went to an event and everybody said to put a suite or plaza as the highest preference. Other people have recommended the transfer experience theme but I believe that is in a residential hall aka communal bathrooms.

I heard we can’t choose which dorm/hall. We can choose what kind of style we want but I think we get randomly placed.

hey guys anybody here is an international student? I was wondering if being international has anything to do with me not being able to access my provisional award letter? Do we just not get it at all? I know we’re not eligible for pretty much any financial aid but I thought that we were still able to receive some scholarships?

There is no guarantee that you’ll get your first choice of room.

Here’s a good thread about housing, old but good. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-los-angeles/341377-read-before-starting-new-housing-thread-p1.html
