YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO @everyone has anyone received a regents notice yet? I just received the Alumni Scholarship application but I wasn’t sure if they have come out with Regents. Any word?
@Happy2Help My admission contract just says to
-Maintain academic performance
-Complete coursework requirement
-send official transcript
-comply with deadline
@dkarbcs you’re right. No point in prolonging the inevitable. Ugh I’m so sad
@2016Candles @Seljuk Thanks so much for the info!
For future philosophy (or similar majors) applicants:
I dropped Symbolic Logic with a “W”. This left me with 3/4 major courses (symbolic logic was the “recommended” fourth). I just received notification from UCLA that this does not affect my admission decision!
Each case is different, though! If it can be avoided, don’t drop classes! But in case you are in a situation where you must drop for one reason or another, there is some hope (for majors similar to philosophy).
Cannot decided between UCSB (Comm) … UCLA (English) and UCI (LitJour) !!! Financial aid is more or less the same. Distance is not a factor. Above all it is the major that I cannot decide on. My goal is to become a sports journalist. FELLOW STUDENTS ADVICE ME … HELP ME LOL.
@Panorama14
I don’t know much about journalism specifically, but it seems you could have more varied and significant opportunities to get involved with sports journalism at UCLA vs the others. UCLA has all the major sports and many off the beaten path. If you are able to work in the Daily Bruin, it would seem to be a great starting point.
@empad7 No clue, sorry! I’d email someone in admissions to clarify.
@Cheolf Yay! good to hear!! cya in the fall?
Also has anybody else not gotten their admission packet yet :o
@Aeraline don’t give up. How many units do you have? Is the Econ course for IGETC? Did you SIR already?
@Cheolf
Great to hear, Cheolf! Have you decided whether to commit to UCLA or Berkeley yet?
@Cayton Thank you! I have not. I originally posted that I’d SIR to Berkeley. But it’s been very difficult to determine the right choice.
All of my family and my girlfriend live in Southern California. I decided I’d live at/around UCLA if I did attend (not going to commute). I would likely change my major to history if I attended UCLA (I already have all the prerequisites completed). Symbolic Logic was an incredibly uncomfortable experience for me; I am not going to delude myself into thinking it wouldn’t be even more difficult and uncomfortable at UCLA. I’m not running away from a challenge - I put in a lot of work and heavy hours into that class, but saw little returns. I just think I’m incapable of grasping those particular concepts.
If I attend Berkeley, I would likely declare Rhetoric as my major. It has always interested me and I was very close to applying for it originally (I just didn’t want my essay on philosophy to seem somewhat out of place).
I love both campuses, though admittedly Berkeley felt more “right” to me. What I’m essentially wrestling with is the notion of living so far away from home. This is a particularly challenging thought because I aspire to go to law school. If that is indeed what happens (I’d only go if I could achieve T14 admission or USC/UCLA) then I could potentially be away from everyone I know for quite awhile.
As a side note, I do already have a UCLA blanket, keychain, and hat from bribery. :-bd
Hope you can come to a resolution, @Cheolf! I’m sure whatever you pick will be the right choice.
I got my packet yesterday and as someone else noted, it really does smell good, lol.
I was also excited to read we have a Taco Bell on campus? Man, I’m gonna gain so much weight…
@happy2help I will have 65 units by the end of my spring semester and my MicroEcon course isn’t for the IGETC. It was actually for a major prereq for Business Admin for UCR xD and yeah I already SIR’d to UCLA.
@Aeraline send in your transcripts thru Fall, then as soon as you get your Spring grades, report them. Then hold tight for a response!
I have yet to recieve my acceptance letter through the mail as well… Here’s hoping that it comes in tomorrow.
Can someone please help me with the situation I’m in? I still have a year in community college and will apply for transfer to ucla during fall 2016 semester. However, I decided to change my major to chemistry, from biology. I’m taking organic chemistry 1, biology 101, and pol sci 101 this spring semester. Since biology is no longer my major, I am considering to drop biology 101 because I’m sure I’ll receive a B, It will drop my gpa, and it is getting in the way for me to study for organic chemistry. Should I drop the class? I have no W’s so far. Aside from that, I have not taken any physics classes so far for my major prep. It is only required to take physic 1 for ucla and it is recommended to take physic 2 and 3. I won’t be able to take the recommended classes before I transfer. So does that affect my chance to get into ucla?
@daveuc yes, you’ll be less competitive.
Thank you for replying, but by how much? Does it affect me a lot or a little? Also, I will be tap certified when applying for transfer. So does that in some way out weigh not taking the recommended courses?
