FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

@boxlover Please read my post on this thread, #3102 :slight_smile:

So I didn’t have to request a special transcript to indicate that I have completed IGETC, right? I just resent a transcript after I got IGETC certified. It has been over a week and it still isn’t shown on my DARS

Guys, I’m freaking out. So before I was admitted, I emailed UCLA about my change in classes, and they never said anything back to me because all I did was switch the classes taken at different colleges. Basically, I said I’d take one class at this college and the other at another college, but I actually switched them around for the actual spring quarter. However, I just notified admissions about this using the portal because they didnt have that option of dropping classes and whatnot before you were admitted. Should I be worrying about this?? Also, I recently sent in my transcripts and they should have received them today.

@nopiollaga call Admissions tomorrow.

Im so worried… I did tell admissions about this once I confirmed my spring schedule, so I should be fine right? I didn’t take any extra classes or change them, I just took the classes at different schools. I just didnt input it officially into the system until now because I thought that since I already told them I wouldn’t need to. I also completely forgot about it…

Quick question regarding the College Honors. I am a regents scholar and found out today that I was accepted into the College Honors as well. Does anyone know if the honors classes are a lot more difficult and worth it? From my understanding most people accept the Honors offer in order to use the priority enrollment, but since I’m a regents scholar I will already be receiving that so is it worth accepting the College Honors offer and fulfilling the program requirements?

@GirlPower1 I am also a Regent Scholar (transfer student starting Fall 2016) and from what I have heard the classes do take up more time and are harder than normal UCLA classes. Some say it looks better to be a part of it and some like it for prestige. Nice part is that the minimum you need to take for the Junior year (being that you are a transfer) is only 2 classes of the 7 required to fulfill honors. Take one and see how it is!

@GirlPower1
Congratulations.
I am also a Regents Scholar, just got accepted to College honors as well. Also I am a 3 year veteran in the Army. I think the decision depends on your major. Naturally, some majors are more difficult than others. Depending on your workload, I would decide whether an honors course would supplement your schedule instead of throwing it off balance. I would never sacrifice GPA by taking an honors course for the prestige of honors. I would take some time to evaluate yourself. For example…

I am guaranteed parking, housing and classes registration as a veteran (and a regent scholar). So I do not have to worry about benefits.
I am a Neuroscience major, I probably should not add any more work than I need to.
As you can anticipate, any science major would require extensive time for research.

Based on this, I do not think I will have any extra time to spare for honors classes. For most people, time spent on academics is a direct correlation on your performance overall. For most, the more time you spend, the better you do. Simple. It is safe to conclude that time is very valuable. An addition of honors courses could throw off the balance.
Overall, take some time to evaluate your own personal profile and think whether or not honors is right for you. At the end of the day your Grade Point Average is king compared to an honors title.

@JH @wrt610n12 thank you both for your input!

Does anybody know if not submitting our immunization documents before orientation will have a hold on our acc? like we wont be able to register for courses? Thanks

Who do we contact over questions about transfer evaluations?

@boxlover Your account won’t be on hold if you don’t submit your immunization documents before orientation.

“UCLA requires submission by September 19, 2016.”

and if you don’t submit it by that deadline then, “We may put a hold on your registration for the winter quarter.”

Also if you’re in a special program for school, they might have a different deadline and should contact you about it. And that doesn’t mean regular undergrad students, I think it’s more about people who are going to med school or grad school or are going to work directly with children somehow.

@worldchanger Did you finish all prereqs before the Spring semester?

Also, as a general question to anyone? Do you know if finishing 2 prereqs in the Spring hurts your chances? Specifically for engineering.

I am currently at a CC with the intent on transferring to UCLA and Berkeley.
My GPA is 3.68.
I have completed all of the prereqs.
I have finished IGETC.
I plan on writing about how I was a poor student in high school, received my GED and went on to achieve good grades and completely change the course of my life.
My EC’s include volunteer work, PTK, speaking to incoming students at the alternative school I went to, political science club and a full time job since I was 17.
Oh and my major is Poli Sci.
Thank you for any kind of input!

@poliscimajr

Hi friend.
Here is a profile of admitted transfer students.
For Political science the admitted average is 3.75.
Keep in mind this data is from 2014. UCLA has only gotten more competitive over the years.

Hope this helps, enjoy your summer.
A little extra incentive, I am transfer for Neuroscience for the Fall of 2016. If you increase your GPA slightly from here on out, you will get invited to compete for honors program. Within this program you get selected. Luckily I was one of few to secure a spot. I recommend this option. If you have any question, although I am not an expert I will answer with the best of my ability.

Thank you so much for your input :slight_smile:

Anyone know when will they assign us roommates?

2 years ago, roommate assignments were emailed at the end of August.

Last year, emails went out late August /early September.

Financial aid has been posted. Anyone else’s financial aid generated under the assumption that you’ll be living in a different dorm than assigned? It says my financial aid is generated under the assumption I’ll be living in the residence halls at Hilgard, but that’s completely wrong.

@csmajortom I believe they used that just as an example. Confusing, I know. But out of the options available that one was presented to me too (Hilgard and all) even though I’m not living on campus.
