@FaithGraceUC are you checking from your phone or computer?
Mine was like that, but the picture disappeared a couple days ago.
It’s when you click on MyUCLA status, then you’ll have a picture of Royce Hall.
Yeah under “Other Student Services”
Mine just says “Status” and then blank underneath-- no photo or words
@andrewjchange yours is now blank too? When did it have a photo? I don’t know if I ever checked the status page and so can’t remember if there was a photo there or not
@FaithGraceUC I honestly don’t think it’s an indication of anything because it says “Welcome to MyUCLA,” not welcome to UCLA. I’m checking off my phone, so idk if that’s why.
Seems weird, though : (
I have a good GPA for my major, but my essays were so-so and the only two schools that care much about essays are the two schools left.
Wait where do you find your status? Like what drop down menu is it under? I can’t find mine right now
How is everyone accessing myUCLA? Isnt that for current and former students only??
@AkumaShokan I took summer classes through UCLA a few years ago
@maluminati Ah I see.
And does anyone know if TAP works if my major is computer science but my alternate major is math of computation? Technically math of computation can be tagged but since Im a com sci student, I dont know if it works that way
@FaithGraceUC wait where did you hear that only UCLA and UCB “care” for the essays? I thought all schools utilized them.
I found that no matter what I put in the box of “City of Birth” (even the totally wrong answer), I can log into my UCLA portal. Is this a system bug? Do you guys have this problem?
@lostar There’s a list somewhere. UCLA and UCB (especially) stress holistic review meaning they go through essays and actually consider them. UCSD doesn’t, from what I know, and idk/idc about the rest. There’s a list on the UCSD thread.
@FaithGraceUC According to the UCs though, an essay can only help you it can’t hurt you (unless I guess you talk about/say something ridiculous or offensive). The weight it would have would depend on if you’re, let’s say, a borderline candidate, that’s when “holistic review” is truly utilized. That’s all I know from the seminar, so if you have all your prereqs and a high GPA, you wouldn’t be rejected because of your essays. Is your major impacted?
@rachill that’s so weird! I just tried it it went through for me too!
@rachill Woah, same here.
@rachill Same omg
@FaithGraceUC @lostar @LynAmmo All schools look at the personal insights, but from what an admissions counselor told me in the fall, academics matter MOST for the other UC’s (meaning essays don’t matter much). Of course, academics are still important for Berkeley and LA, but the personal insights are weighed more heavily in the process than at other schools. This was the actual woman who reads applications and admits transfer students, so I trust what she said.
@ronniec95 Did your friend apply with TAP? Just curious because I’m cognitive science as well with only a computer science missing (and finishing up calc 1 this semester). Did she have a lot of pre-reqs not done?
Can anyone share any insight they have on students that apply as cognitive science. So far I’ve only read about people getting denied? I was under the impression that cogsci is not a competitive major yet it’s acceptance rate hovers around 29 percent? Any thoughts or opinions ?
@mangobby what do they look for in the insight essay/?
