FALL 2017 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

@uclahopeful2017 Oh and I heard ucla considers second major ONLY if you are in TAP

Ok you answered my second question about being considered for alternate major for TAP. I’m just wondering if they give the same fair consideration for alternate major as they do for first choice. @AkumaShokan

@uclahopeful2017 Idk about when the application gets looked at, but yeah you’re alternate major will get considered if you’re in tap.

I dont know why I keep checking myUCLA knowing that they won’t be releasing decisions till Wednesday…

hey guys i need help lol. so I applied for the Asian Studies major and it’s stated that all applicants must have completed at least one year of an Asian language. However I haven’t…I was hoping to test out of it as I am fluent in one of the languages. But I did not state this on my application. Do you guys think I’ll automatically be disqualified? helppppp. I’m so stupid for not thinking this through D;

Hello friends! I know everybody is anticipating this forthcoming ‘judgement’ day and I wish nothing more than for the results to come in our favor. I have a question and would appreciate it if anyone could spare some insight!

A little bit about myself (Stats, more so):
CCC Transfer
Units Completed after Spring: 61
Major: English
TAP: No, but I was in the Honors program and took about 4-5 transferable Honors courses!
GPA: 3.86
EC’s: worked 20-25 hours per week (not much, family responsibilities)

The question I have pertains to pre-reqs. I have completed every single pre-req but am iffy about the foreign language requirement regarding English majors. When I had called into UCLA in the Spring of 2016, they informed me that my IGETC fulfillment would cover that ‘2nd semester’ of a foreign language, so all I’m finishing up are my two foreign translation courses. Did every English major on here take a language at a CC or did you just allow IGETC to fulfill it? Also, how bad could that hurt my application considering I did talk to an admissions rep about it. I feel like it’s such a cloudy subject that should be better cleared. I appreciate the help!

@eden97 I applied for Spanish Community and Culture and I haven’t taken any spanish classes at my CC. But I took the AP Spanish Language Exam in HS and I got a 5 on it. I believe you have to take a college level course in a foreign language, you can’t just test out of it. But I’m not entirely sure, perhaps your passion for Asian studies will be evident in your personal statement. :slight_smile:

Also, my major GPA is a 4.0 if that matters at all.

@masechka1988 Yep

@latrnsfrpls hi! Okay so I’m an English major at every school except UCLA (American Lit and Culture) but the requirements are the same and I’ve religiously looked into this stuff so here’s what I’ve been told and noticed. So basically as English majors we need to have one complete year of a foreign language i.e. two semesters (for example right now I’m finishing up my second semester of Japanese) and then we could either do two more semesters of foreign language or two courses of foreign literature in translation which is what it looks like we’ve both opted for! So from your stats I think your pretty much a shoe in for UCLA but you may have to take an extra semester if foreign language there I believe. I mean maybe I’m wrong about all this but I’ve checked assist multiple times and my cousin was an English major at ucla and she completed Spanish 3 I know for her major. Hope this helped!

@maluminati First of all, I love your username. Second, thanks for clearing that up for me! I heard different things from different people and was getting a little antsy. Unfortunately, the fact is that I didn’t take a year of language at a CC though cause I was told that my IGETC would fulfill the language requirement (took two years in high school). Would the confusion hinder a potential acceptance? I am taking the foreign lit classes though, so I hope they kind of understood what I was going for.

I’ve been following this HOT thread for a while, but first comment.
I know chancing at this moment sounds bit silly… I haven’t found cse major applicants much. Although there are many reliable stats out there, I want to hear you guys’ thought, as people who are in the same boat!

status: CCC international student
Major: Computer Science & Engineering
UC GPA: 4.00
Major GPA: 3.98 (one A- in GE – non major) + 1 W on math course
Req: All done
Strongly recmed-courses: 4/5 courses done
ECs: Nothing much special; club, volunteer, donation, paid internship, mvp of high school soccer team for a mid-sized league, 2nd place in math competition, etc.
Essay: I think it is fine. I just tried not to write “BS” and simply showed my knowledge and insight on my major.

Accepted: UCD CSE & UCSD CS
Pending: UCLA CSE & UCB EECS

I will go to ucla over ucb if I get into both because I simply love la la land.
That is it. Thank you in advance.

@latrnsfrpls honestly I don’t think they would deny you for one missing pre-req especially considering you’ve maintained a 4.0 in all your other classes. I know they are super hardcore about finishing pre-reqs prior to transfer but because it’s the foreign language specifically I really think you’ll be fine. Also my cousin transferred to UCLA for English in one year and I’m pretty sure she didn’t finish every pre-req she needed but she did maintain a very high GPA for English (like a 3.8 I think) so really I think you’ll be good!

@maluminati Thanks so much! I appreciate the insight. (:

@UCLACSEman Damn son! Obviously, your stats are awesome, but as I’ve said before with impacted majors we never know. Did you apply as a resident or international?

1 day 21 hours and 30 minutes! We’re almost there!!

Shout out to everyone that managed to keep their 4.0 :o http://www.slate.com/content/dam/slate/articles/news_and_politics/the_slate_quiz/authorPortraits/meryl_gif_oscars.gif.CROP.original-original.gif
