@lavaliente you’re fine, the high school credit will count.
@lostar I was scheduled to work Wednesday but had to beg my coworker to switch with me… I had to pressure her with my potential emotional meltdown
Thanks! Been going crazy trying to find more reasons as to why they could deny me, haha. The previous English posters discussing prerequisites made me more paranoid
I’m not checking 'till Friday regardless. Too risky. And I can’t risk wanting to skip class on Thursday 'cause I’m saving up my allowed absences lol.
@InTheNightSky95 you have amazing willpower!
Pretty sure you have to take college level foreign language courses unless you opted for 5 foreign lit classes to satisfy that requirement in addition to your high school language courses. @lavaliente no need to be paranoid or scared to share stats! This is a place of encouragement and I’m sure your stats are great!
@LesKnope Well that, and I know I’ll be an emotional wreck whichever way this goes lol
Hey guys! So just like everyone else on this thread I am anxiously waiting for UCLA to release transfer decisions. I thought I had a good chance going in but now I’m starting to doubt myself. Can someone comment on the possibility of my getting in?
Major: History
Overall GPA: 3.94
UC GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0
Completed: All major prereqs (for UCLA), but not IGETC --right now, I’m completing foreign language requirement, and science requirement, and a major requirement for UCB
Extra curriculars/ other stuff : Volunteer work at a couple of non profit orgs (with a focus on literacy), very active at my church (one leadership position), honors club board member, phi theta kappa member, have two associate degrees
Essays: I felt like they were okay! I talked a lot about my community, a little bit on research, going from low performing and misplaced in high school to hardworking in college, etc.
What do you guys think? I appreciate your answers
Also, applied to: CSULB, CSUF, UCSB, UCB, Pepperdine
Accepted: CSULB, CSUF, UCSB, Pepperdine
Awaiting: UCLA, UCB
Also, I’ve heard that sometimes only UCLA or UCB will accept students but not to both? How accurate is this info?
CAN’T WAIT FOR WEDNESDAY!!!
@goldenheart WOW IM A HISTORY MAJOR WITH A 4.0 TOO!! Hahah, great to see a fellow historian
@uclahopeful2017 My counselor had me complete IGETC, and I made sure to take courses that overlapped as CSU/UC transferable in my major. I was never told to take additional language/language translation courses lmao this is what I get for listening to counselors
Ya I’ve been told so many different things and the counselors at my CC are very unknowledgable lol. But I don’t think that AP scores would be able to omit you from the language requirement, especially as it is specifically for your major. Who knows though! The foreign language requirement is so unclear, I doubt that this specific requirement will hinder your chances for acceptance, especially if you have a strong GPA which I presume from your AP classes in high school. @lavaliente
@InTheNightSky95 holy moly. I totally get that, but I’m gonna be busy this entire week and you know what I can’t take another moment of waiting, I just need to know. It’s gonna be the most painful bandaid I’ve ever had to rip off
hold up my dudes i too have been creepin hard on this thread for about 48 years now and i am also an english major who hasn’t taken foreign language courses at my CC?? yikes?? i was told my three years of spanish in high school would satisfy that requirement lmao…anyways i realize its pointless to even post this so close to decisions but better late than never? ok
major: english
overall GPA: 3.94
UC GPA: ??? how do y’all know this
major GPA: 4.0
prereqs complete except maybe foreign language apparently, also some honors courses
ECs: i’ve worked 20-30 hours a week all three years i’ve been in school (plus 3 years before that) but that’s about it
essays: wrote abt some heavy personal stuff that happened in high school, how i’ve learned/grown from it etc
UCSD is the only other UC i applied to (and i got accepted) because i thought i wanted to go out of state for sure and i never thought in one million years i would have a chance at getting into UCLA but then i looked at the profile of admitted english major transfers from years past and now i’m like mega emotionally invested? why is this happening! SOS! i have 7 other offers of admission waiting for me so i have options but like…y’all…its UCLA…i’m stressed
@goldenheart any reason in particular you’re doubting yourself? I would think youre in for sure. With a 4.0, IGETC about to be done, and decent EC’s like that.
I’m a history major as well. 3.76, volunteer at a local small history museum, occasionally at an orphanage, also involved with my church and I work part time, that’s about it. Yours stats are stronger but I’ve been told by most everyone who’s reviewed my application that I’m very competitive.
Add to that history at ucla has a 60%+ acceptance rate and you’re above the 75th percentile.
@BlownRose Go on uc transfer admission planner and input your coursework. It’ll show you your UC GPA. I think you’re gonna be fine tbh.
any African american studies majors in the house
@goldenheart @futurelawyer88 hey im a history major too! good luck guys!
Where is everyone hearing that your high school foreign languages/AP test for foreign languages don’t count towards UC requirements?? It would seem odd if you took 2-4 years of a language in high school, or passed the AP exam and then had to take the language again in college…
Major: History
UC GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: complete after spring
Major Prep: does this refer to the assist.org classes? if so that will be complete after spring too
EC’s:
-attended a few clubs every once in a while
-volunteer work w environmental organizations
-tutoring
Target schools: I only applied to Cal, UCLA, and UCSB
@BlownRose lmao, that was my exact reaction!!!
@uclahopeful2017 I have IGETC complete, so I guess my only missing prerequisite would be this foreign language for my major, though I wasn’t aware of it until right now, lol. My GPA is on the lower end for my major (3.5), but I’m within the 25th percentile, I have 2 jobs (both within my field, one being an internship), and my personal statements were strong, so I’m hoping for the best! I got into UCR, UCI, and UCSD already, so my missing foreign language wasn’t that big of a deal to those institutions… but we’ll just have to see about UCLA, haha
