FALL 2017 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

I’ve been lurking here for months! I almost made it watching from afar, but I can’t hang alone anymore:
Linguistics and Psych major
3.86 GPA
all pre-reqs are done
no TAP
I work and tutor special needs kids (including my autistic son) and help run a political action committee that gives back to under funded groups
Accepted: CSULA, CSUDH, CSULB, CSUF, UCI and just waiting on the big one

Good luck guys, it has been a long time coming.

BTW since I’m 800 years older than everyone (33), if I somehow manage to get in I’d be commuting from South Bay. Anyone else in the same boat?

All of these UCSD rejections are making me REALLY nervous. I was accepted to UCSD, but nevertheless, I’m so scared I won’t get in Berkeley or LA now. So many highly qualified applicants were turned down

@roguediggles I’m kinda in the same situation and yes, it’s grounds for appeal if you’re successful and get to the 60 units.

been creeping this for the last few months and finally decided to make an account!
glad to know i’m not the only one soooo ridiculously nervous for tomorrow :’)

@H20Lily Hey!! I’m a Ling & Psych major too!!! Congratulations on your acceptances so far!! I’ll be sure to keep my fingers crossed for us tomorrow!

Honestly I’m so nervous as well! I’m a psych major with a 3.73 gpa so I’m honelsty not expecting much from UCLA. I got into UCSB, UCSD, UCI and UCR so I definitely have other choices, but it’s UCLA lol who doesn’t wanna go there!

@lsierra77 What is your major? But same I’m a bit below the 75th percentile of admitted students for psych. Terrified.

@susiejames81590 same, my GPA is a bit higher but considering how competitive the psych major is, i’m not so sure anymore! accepted to the same schools as well, and also waiting on berkeley

I know it’s a bit late to be stressing over this, but do the UC’s take into account your UC GPA or overall GPA? Which one of these GPA’s is then used to calculate the 25-75th percentiles for admits?

For those of you trying to calculate your UC GPA, I believe that pluses and minuses affect it. For example, At UC Davis the scale is: A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7… and so on. I’m pretty sure that’s a UC-wide standard but not sure if its also how the admissions office looks at it.

Also the number of units that the class is also plays a role so you’d multiply the weight of the grade by the units of the class and then add them all up then divide that score by the number of total units (like an average)

Example) 2 As in 3 unit classes and 1 B+ in a 2 unit class = [4.03 + 4.03 + 3.3*2]/(3+3+2) = 3.83 gpa

@lexluther96 wait don’t A- get 3.7 and B+ get 3.3 and B- get 2.7 etc. as well, or do A and A- count as the same?

edit: nvm just saw @Hunter097 's comment

I’m thinking I should’ve applied as a sociology major (I’ll be graduating from my CC with a soc degree), I want to double major in that and psych but sociology isn’t as competitive to transfer into

Only UC’s and Cal states take - and +. Community colleges usually don’t and have solid letter grades! So depends where you’re coming from, ask your school to be specific. So if you’re a 4 yr to UC transfer then yeah take the minus and plus into consideration

If only A+ counted as a 4.3…

@jmunoz poli sci right here! also accepted to UCSD back in March

any African american studies major in this thread and do you think a 3.17 is good enough to m are the cut. I seen on 2013 thread someone got in with this gpa without tap

@littlebuns you too!!! Happy to find another with the same major.

@amunroeee I’m a communications major with an overall 3.85 (between the 25th and 75th percentile) and a 4.0 major GPA. Extensive ec’s in radio broadcasting, pr/marketing, and a congressional internship but I can’t help but feel terrified…

any African American studies major here and do you think a transfer gpa of 3.17 is low for that major. I seen someone with this gpa in the 2013 thread get in

I think I’m gonna take a couple sleeping pills and knock out till tomorrow because I can’t bruh
