Hi all! I recently applied to the CCS program at UCSB, and was asked for my fall grades. I have not heard of fall grade requests for the program before though, does anyone know if this is a good or bad indicator for my application? Thanks in advance!
I was under the impression that the UC system tends to ask for fall grades regardless?
From what I’ve read, they usually never ask for any Senior grades unless you’re reporting low grades like D’s or F’s
I wouldn’t read into it too much if I were you, usually nothing good happens from overanalyzing things like this.
alright then, thanks for the advice!
Maybe post this in the UC section, the mods there tend to know a ton about the UC admission process.
Normally the UC’s will not ask for Senior year Fall grades unless the student is targeted for a Supplemental/Augmented review.
I moved your original post into the UC Santa Barbara Forum.
I am no expert on UCSB’s CCS program, but this is the first time I have heard about wanting Fall grades from Freshman applicants. It might be department specific or something new they have added to the application review??
Sorry I cannot be more help but hopefully some other posters might have some more information.
Thank you for the insight! It was requested directly from the ccs department program coordinator, so I think its definitely department specific.
@ccsfaculty can you lend some insight? Is this something new?
This does not reflect any new College policy. But each major in CCS functions slightly differently for admissions. In some majors high school grades are a better predictor of success than in others. I can imagine a student who potentially looks quite promising as a fit for the College and major but they only took some key course in the Fall and so did not have those results on the transcript submitted with their UC application. In that case I’d want to reach out to find out that grade and at least have the full set of information to give the student the best chance. If I had to guess I’d say that Physics and Math would be the majors that would be most likely to do this as grades in certain classes are a better predictor of success in those majors. I wouldn’t read too much into it but I would say that it’s unlikely to be something they would do for someone they do not think is at least potentially a good fit.
This is probably the case, as I applied for one of those majors and took both Calculus BC and Physics C Mechanics this past semester, along with some related DE courses. Thank you for the insight!
That’s strange, all of my friends got the same thing but I’ll trust you on that.
Can you clarify your statement? All your friends got a email to submit Fall grades for UCSB’s CCS program?
Of the 4 that submitted, all of them got the email to submit fall grades.
Thank you.
Ah so I guess this may be more a common thing in CCS admissions than I previously thought, thanks for the info!
Just got rejected from CCS, looks like it definitely isnt a sign of anything
