Fall of 2016 Applicants

My daughter applied as a fine arts major. Did theater require a portfolio too? She still hasn’t heard.

Does anyone know if UT will consider a mid year transcript if we’re still waiting to hear on our major?

Well. You have nothing to lose. Send it and let admissions know about it.

As I read through some of the admittance threads, I don’t see much about Cockrell engineering or Engineering honors. I applied back in October for both. Haven’t heard anything at all, not even marketing material in the mail.

Any idea when Cockrell will start to send out acceptances or rejections? Or if they batch them like other programs? Thanks.

@ConcertoinD I got notice on November 17 that I had been accepted into Cockrell. Got the official letter about three or four days later. I have not heard anything about Engineering Honors.

@ConcertoinD I also was notified that I was accepted into Cockrell on December 17. As I (unfortunately) live out of state it took a little more than a week for the actual paper packet. I did not apply to engineering honors, so I am not sure when they will send anything on that.

@ConcertoinD My son applied in Oct as well and has not heard from engineering. He is not auto admit but has very good credentials. Three friends of his and a cousin are auto admit who applied earlier, and they too have heard nothing for engineering or business schools.

I gave admissions a call regarding the mid year transcript. They said they will accept it and look at it IF my D’s app has not already been reviewed. He said that most all of them have and they are finishing up. He would not give any idea when next wave is and said we would know by March 1.

Thanks for that info. My S is still waiting to hear for engineering, as are several of his friends (for same and different majors). It is a relief and scary at the same time that they are finishing up. S is really pulling to go to UT. He has A&M already as his back up, but really wants this.

@Bailey101 so do you think there will be a wave soon? Like in January?

No idea! He would not give anymore information! Frustrating, right?!

I have twin sons, both of whom have applied to UT, one wants physics major, the other computer science. This was definitely their top choice school. We are OOS from a very small school/town in Midwest. Their stats are so-so. Son #1 had a 32 ACT, 3.967 GPA u/w, top 7% of class, NMS Commended student, NHS member (although that was after we had submitted app, so not known to UT). Son #2 is no slouch, had a 31 ACT, 3.869 GPA u/w, top 13% of class and also NHS member. Various school and out-of-school activities. Both will have an Associates Degree from community college earned through dual credit when they graduate HS. Their apps have been “in review” for a long time. I’m just wondering if anyone has been denied admission yet, or do they dump all those at one time? I don’t know whether to feel encouraged that the apps are still in review, or just begin to accept they won’t get in.

I was talking with a person on our street and her daughter was in review last year from application date in September until she was accepted into her major (biomedical engineering) in mid to late Feb. So, don’t give up hope. one or both of your kids may get in. If not, from what I understand, they won’t be rejected for admission but given one of the other pathways. This is beneficial for some. That said, you still have to transfer into your major once you have full admissions to UT and internal transfer can be very difficult in some schools. Good Luck.

I believe you have to be a Texas resident to be offered CAP. Not sure about PACE

But, there is still a chance @IAMomofTwins- hopefully you will know soon.

@basedchem

You just deny your offer of admission if you have been admitted.

@ConcertoinD

I applied to Cockrell in late August/early October and was accepted in November. It could happen any time. I am also OOS.

@sarangooL Are you sure? I got in ED, so withdrawing is kinda part of my agreement… So there’s no withdrawal process? Just deny if I get admitted?

@basedchem Are you saying you have been accepted to an ED school already? If so, you have to pull out all other applications even though the decisions are not out yet. I am sure in most MyStatus/status portal there is a link that says something like “click here if no longer interested in this school”. You will be doing everyone a favor by opening your spots that you don’t need anymore. Congrats on your ED acceptance!

@K20903, @jarededberg, @Thelma2, @sarangooL and others, thanks for replying. I guess I just wait and see. I had applied at the 15 Oct deadline for engineering (electrical) as a first choice and Plan II as a second (really applying to do them together)–haven’t heard anything from either. As I had mentioned, I am also surprised to not receive even any marketing materials in the mail, as other schools do when you apply, and well, all the schools schools you don’t even apply too. Perhaps they are just saving money not marketing to the few OOS student applicants. :slight_smile:

@IAMomofTwins, I haven’t yet seen any post for any Cockrell rejections or deferrals. Same for Plan II. I was accepted EA to Georgia Tech and the number of posts of high stats kids not accepted in EA is copious! I would expect the same with Cockrell. Good luck to your sons!

@K20903, @jarededberg, @sarangooL,

I had another question for you. With your acceptances, did any of you also get any merit scholarship awards with the acceptances or did they include any information in your packages on merit scholarships? Thanks!

@ConcertoinD No I have not received any merit scholarship awards. When I check my status it shows that my scholarship application is still under review. I have seen a couple of posts where admits to Cockrell have gotten merit awards. Their stats were very high. I believe it is normal for merit decisions to come out in March or later.
