This is the official discussion thread for University of Texas at Austin Class of 2030 applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.
My youngest daughter is in the top of her class and will be an auto admit. She’s set on UT. My oldest daughter is currently at A&M, so I’m only familiar with their process. In terms of UT housing, what is the timeline to apply after she sent in her application on 8/2? She tells me that she’s not heard anything back other than her college application was received.
Last year it took my daugher about 10 days to apply for housing after submitting the application. She applied around Sep10th. From my memory I think it was longer for students who applied in August. Once submitted UT downloaded the application, you can see it on Common app(it will say “downloaded”). Then they sent UTEID, after that student was able to apply for housing.
I believe they won’t start downloading them until tomorrow so hopefully you should be able to get into the portal sometime next week.
Thank you
Thanks
Hello! I went thru the process last year with my son, who will be moving onto the 40 Acres next week .
Last cycle, knowing how important getting the housing app in asap was at UT, my LH dropped his application on 8/1. UT downloaded it from Common App about 2 weeks later and got MyStatus portal access soon after. His transcript was already there (since June) so we didnt have to wait for it to process. UT Housing finally opened the Housing portal to incoming freshmen on 8/30. Took them a bit. We got an email that morning to be able to put down the $50 deposit (it is $100 now btw). He got the first dorm selection window and got his first choice dorm. All the effort was well worth it!
Make sure UT has both the common app and a transcript in hand so you can gain housing portal access asap. Both are required. If you have any other questions, let me know. I did a deep dive into all things UT Admissions since my son’s sophomore year in HS. And with moove-in coming so fast, I will probably have a lot of time on my hand after that…
I hope they follow this same script this year. They haven’t downloaded our app yet and the end of the month will give the counselor a bit of time to get the transcripts in since they just got back to school on Wednesday. I’ll be on that deposit asap.
Do you know if it needs to be an official transcript or can he upload an unofficial transcript for this purpose
Official. We sent ours via parchment in June as soon as the junior eoy ranking transcript was published by our district.
Daughter received her emails yesterday for setting up her account and her housing application.
Congrats…an important “next step” in the process. We got ours on almost the exact same date last year. Not gonna lie, it was a painfully loooonnnggg wait after that to EA decision day.
She’ll be an auto admit but it’s taken longer that I expected. I’ve also heard that they won’t confirm her major until February. Is this true?
Mine was autoadmit too, neuroscience major.
The major is confirmed the night they get their acceptances. The screen for autos will always say “congrats (name) you have been admitted to the university of texas at austin” and then it will give the major they are accepted into. As an auto, for very competitive majors, there is the possibility one gets soft-rejected to “undeclared liberal arts” instead of their desired major. This happened to my son’s classmate (valedictorian of a decent sized district, national merit finalist, near perfect SAT). He wanted engineering and got soft-rejected with liberal arts. He went to TAMU for his desired major instead.
If applying EA, there is a chance you learn the decision mid-January. My son was early-admitted that night but they only admitted 5% of EA applicants that night and deferred the other 95% to February’s regular decision. It was UT’s 1st year doing true EA. Who knows if they will do the same thing this year.
Biology is her first choice. I’m hoping it’s a larger major.
So she won’t get her acceptance notification until January or February?
Biology is the largest major in the College of Natural Science so it is a very large major. And yes, if she applied EA the acceptance last year came out 1/15 but only 5% learned their fate, all others were deferred to the regular acceptance date in February. I want to say it was around 2/9 or so. Edited to add regular decisions were announced 2/7 last year for the 2029 cycle.
But that’s for confirmation of the major, right? I read where auto-admits starting getting acceptance letters on September 23rd last year.
No. No majors are confirmed for autoadmits to UT prior to acceptance. You might be thinking of TAMU with its rolling acceptances. My son’s friends who were auto were getting accepted to TAMU early as long as they submitted the Common App early (and many do just to get the best housing selections). The only exception is if an autoadmit wants liberal arts because that is the only guarantee and where they “soft reject” autos who do not get their desired major. UT doesnt send any letter of acceptance based on autoadmit. You might receive info from your school if they rank or TEA that says you qualified for autoadmit based on rank but nothing from UT.
