UT Austin Class of 2030 Official Thread

Thanks. Her sister is currently at TAMU. So thanks for clarifying the difference.

Bio is a huge major but it’s pretty competitive. People do get undeclared for bio sometimes.

DD applied August 24th, received EID on the 29th. However, she can’t apply for housing, so far as we can see.

When she goes here
.

https:// utaustin.starrezhousing dot com/StarRezPortalX/

It takes her to the UT Service Desk page.

Is this because her application is not yet “complete” per the MyStatus page? (Awaiting transcript review and SAT score is what it says.)

Thanks for any help you can lend.

They dont necessarily need the SAT to open the housing portal but they must have the transcript in hand and time to process it. If you havent ordered it sent, do that right away. If you have already sent it, it typically takes a few days of lag time (during which you will get that familiar IT service desk screen) after getting the EID to process the transcript and then open the housing portal to you. But since people have been submitting apps since 8/1 but they only started ramping up and handing out EIDs since end of August it might take a bit longer to dig out of the pile of apps that has accumulated.

Is it bad if I wait till october to apply?

I wouldnt say bad. In the last cycle they did selection a bit differently and divided everyone up for dorm selection at different times over just 4 days (they only used 2 Thursdays and Fridays this past cycle because many were in orientation Mon-Wed in June and maybe they felt TH-F was more fair to those who couldnt get to their computers in orientation). I know those who reported doing their housing application in Aug-Sept got the 1st day selection. October got the 2nd day. There were still a good number of open beds in most dorms on the 2nd day. The suite bathrooms in Jester were all gone on the first day though and we have a friend who wanted San Jac but he was pulling in a roommate and they couldnt find a room with 2 open beds in it in San Jac on day 2 so they had to go to Duran. But then another friend scooped up a San Jac room (by himself, random roommate) the 3rd day. If you had your heart set on having your choice of dorm - especially if you will be doing the selecting for both you and a roommate - I would try to get the application done midSeptember for a 1st day pick (assuming UT does it the same as last cycle, as I said they changed it up to a 4 day process and they could change it again next cycle). For actually getting into UT, I dont think EA and the October 15 deadline matters that much, they deferred 95% of EA applicants last cycle (their 1st true year with an EA cycle). If your guidance counselors are making you wait until some arbitrary date where they are done dealing with beginning of year stuff, I would bring them a giant box of doughnuts or bagels and sit down and explain housing at the top 2 universities in Texas and say pretty-please can we send the transcript today.

I am confused on how score send for SAT works, I got a good score (>1500, 800 math), on my school day test and it prompted me to pick 4 colleges to send the score to, so I picked UT as one of them. However, this was in April 2025, so will I have to send a new score with my common app submission, or will they be able to match the records? Also, can I submit my transcripts for high school and letters of rec after the oct 15 EA deadline? I am auto-admit as well.

If the college board shows you sent your score in April to UT Austin, you do not have to send it again. They will “marry” the SAT to application. To make the 10/15 EA deadline your supplementing material must be there by 10/22. So if inviting teachers to do Letters of Rec, send them friendly reminders now and again (you can see their progress in the common app if they have started the task or completed it). Send the transcripts asap. You will get a student EID and MyStatus access after they pull down and process your common app submission but they wont grant you housing portal access until they get and process your transcript. Dorm selection order is based on when you submit your housing application and $100 fee. The earlier the better if you want the best selection for dorms.

My son applied Aug 1, common app. He is top 2%. We finally got his Eid around Aug 31. His transcript says it was received from his high school Aug 22. It is still “under review”. He has emailed, and got a response that it could take up to 3 weeks. He has friends that applied after he did, who claim they’ve been able to get into housing. Can anyone report being in the same boat as we are? Has anyone been able to put down a housing deposit? I’m actually disappointed if people applying after are already able to put down housing deposits.

You’re a step ahead of us, they haven’t marked our transcript as received at all. I am also very disappointed.

Especially when admit letters are rolling in from other schools

D26 does have a prior EID so I am going to have her look into merging them in case her transcript has been uploaded to the old one. We do have 2 acceptances to be excited about right now. Me, I’m excited. She is amused at my excitement.

Anybody have a good template/format for the expanded resume? I am applying in-state this fall.

For our O.O.S. LHD26, in fall '22 she sent in her application well before the singular application deadline (EA didn’t start until quite recently) - She received admissions notification less than a month later, and well before the published admissions decision release date. Her college/ major was part of the initial admissions offer.

However, if you look over prior CC UT Austin admit threads, as well as the reddit threads, there are students who have applied EA and RD who found out before the release deadlines, some well before. This includes kids who were and were not Texas Residents meeting the Top of Class cutoff. A lot of the applicants did not hear anything until the official release date. Again, some of the kids who were admitted received their college/major notification as part of their admissions, some of them reported it came a short time later, and quite a few reported they didn’t find out for quite some time.

Simply because your student hits the Texas Class Rank threshold this doesn’t guarantee their first or even second choice on major - and you might not find out for some time - and this seems to be a fairly big issue, even for kids who have -very- high stats etc. Especially for the most competitive /selective majors.

If you don’t mind the possibility of spending a bit of money accepting your seat / applying for housing slot - after your student receives admissions but before you know if they’ve been accepted into their choice(s) of major - then you can submit, in fact I believe UT encourages you to do so to get the process started and get housing priority based on date of submission.

*However, I would really encourage the parents to talk to their students about Plan B or C or D for what the fall back option is if you have a ‘class rank guaranteed admission’ in your pocket
but then don’t get into the first or second choice major
IOW, make it a priority to identify a second, third and forth university for them to apply to alongside their “UT Austin Guarantee” slot. Again, CC and Reddit are filled with students who were guarantees at UT, and limited their options by not having plan B, C and D prepared and sent in by those schools EA dates (or even some for RD dates) - and then they found out they had been shut out of their major(s) of choice and didn’t want to go to Texas for “X” Major or as undeclared as getting into their major of choice from that point who been very difficult to almost impossible.

I’d love to give her a chance at admissions but OOS and McCombs Business are pretty tough asks.

Yes that is correct. Last cycle was UT’s first official EA cycle. They did put out a very small batch of admits like a month before the EA date to find out. In looking at who got it for that small batch many agreed it looked like it consisted of the students who had perfect or nearly perfect standardized test scores. No rhyme or reason to the timing, everyone thought it was just another UT “wave” of admits like prior years when they did wave after wave unexpectedly. We didnt see any other waves until the evening of January 15 when the EA decisions came out. Mine was one of the lucky 5% who got their decision early (autoadmit, neuroscience major). Then the backlash of deferring 95% of the EAs to the regular date followed (you gotta understand that isn’t unusual for some universities - USC is an example - but it was not expected so lots of people were ticked). The regular admission decisions came out in February, if I recall correctly it was a few days earlier than advertised.

My advice is get your housing applications in early. $100 is worth it. Mine had 1st selection window and got the exact room he wanted and could pull his roommate into the other open bed. Those that waited late on a decision from say an ivy or Rice were not happy with “leftovers”, some who waited too long never got a contract at all or were only offered supplemental housing.

UT just released a recent news article today saying last cycle was a freshmen admit class of 9900, its largest ever. Good luck everyone!

Anyone have experience writing the 5 sentences about you prompt? I have looked at TexAdmissions for advice, but I am still so lost.

Daughter submitted her application on Friday and it was downloaded by UT by Monday. She received a housing email, but not a UT email with a portal ID. So, we can’t sign up for housing yet. Is it normal for housing emails to come out before the formal UT admissions portal set up email? Thanks!

I dont think so. In August, UT housing dealing with freshmen dorm mooveins and upperclassmen apartment mooveins that occur the 3rd week of August so the UT housing portal generally delays opening to new applicants until the end of August/beginning of September. Meanwhile all the early August applicants are chomping at the bit, usually with EIDs handed out mid-August waiting for that housing app to open. But then it does, finally (last cycle opened 8/30). After that housing puts out re-occurring emails probably a couple times per month letting people know it is open for business.

If your UT application downloaded Monday you will probably get the EID and mystatus portal access soon. Make sure your transcript is there too. It must process before the housing application access is granted after you get the EID.

Yes- that’s what happened to us. Housing email came- then WEEKS later, the email with the EID. He applied Aug 1, and received the Eid on Aug 30. I believe the housing email came Aug 15. Also- it took them 3.5 weeks to review the official transcript (they marked it received on Aug 22). So he didn’t actually get to apply for housing until mid September.
