About a week for us
Just got admitted into Architectural Engineering!!!
Anybody hear from engineering honors. Mine still says in review
@crazierussia It also says under review for my S.
@UTcomethru He probably would’ve loved to join the group, but since his brother was not admitted to UT, he will not be attending.
@crazierussia also under review.
Engineering Honors. Son just received notification in email and on MyStatus that he did not make engineering honor/ He is admitted to biomedical engineering. In state, top 5%/1000, 3.9 UW GPA, 2310 SAT, 34 ACT, leadership positions, hospital volunteer, …
Son got rejected by Emngineering Honors, ACT 36. SAT 2330. 3.93 GPA , 12 out of 531. all state musician, tons of EC. Looks like you need to be Valditorian or Salutorian to make it.
By the way my Son is admitted to BME too, we are on the same boat. Can anyone makes Honor post their stats?
Son made UT ChemE Honors (and Plan II):
3 / 705 Rank
5.74 W GPA
4.00 UW GPU
2310 SAT
36 ACT
National Merit Finalist
AP National Scholar
Lots of good, but not great ECs
Great LoRs
His essay was pretty great IMO. Talked about ChemE and de-extinction of species killed off by mankind.
He also applied super early last year (September) and attend UT Honors Colloquium.
Looking at everyone’s stats, it is obvious to me honors wasn’t overly stat driven, you guys have great stats!

My son also was not accepted into EHP yesterday, and was admitted to Electrical Eng and Plan II in the January round. Applied in early October. OOS, 4.83 (3.83 uw), 34 ACT, strong leadership, ECs, national awards, and Essays. No APs though. He received a named scholarship in Plan II (big surprise) which I thought might have precluded his admittance to EHP. Looking at the stats in above posts, however, shows how truly competitive EHP is. Congrats @psywar and others accepted.
According to the Plan II website, quantitative scores and data (SAT, ACT, SAT II, AP, IB, class rank and GPA, etc) make up only 20% of the program evaluation criteria.
It’s tempting to compare stats with other applicants, but it doesn’t tell the story about why one student was accepted and another wasn’t. The admissions process is not about the applicant - it’s about the school (or program) and what they are looking for. One year they might be seeking students with an artistic background. Another year they might want students who are active in their communities. It’s subjective and may change from year to year. We will never know what LAH and Plan II admissions were seeking with their Class of 2020 applicants.
The moral of my story is don’t feel bad if you weren’t admitted to UT, your major, or the honors program you applied for. It’s not any reflection on you. It only means that you didn’t have what they’re looking for this year. Every applicant is unique in your own way and you’ll find the perfect place where you belong next fall.
@FloMoMom, fully agree. My son did not expect the Plan II Honors scholarship and he is more elated about that and Plan II than even engineering honors–just how unexpected! Because of how it turned out with Plan II (he’s a stellar fit for PII, IMHO), UT is now his #1 to attend in the Fall, still with the dual-degree with ECE. He had expected UT Cockrell, even with EHP, might have been a top engineering school to consider this month along with other acceptances. It all works out in interesting ways.
congrats to everyone who has gotten accepted! my son was admitted about a week back but is not 100% sure if he will be attending. I saw that orientation registration opens up on March 10th but he will most likely not be accepting until April. Does anyone know how fast orientation fills up? will my son be able to sign up for one of the june sessions?
@UThelpme Last year, some orientation sessions filled up within a few hours after registration opened. If your son is considering UT and you want to attend orientation in June, I recommend that you accept his offer of admission so you’re ready to register when orientation opens on March 10. If it doesn’t matter when he attends orientation, you can wait until April. Orientation is mandatory, so there has to be a spot for everyone.
What time does the orientation registration open on March 10?
Orientation registration was an interesting event last year. The system crashed when it started at around 10:30 am, probably because of the unexpected traffic, and then went back up after a few hours and down again and finally came back up in the evening at around 5pm… Anyway, I am sure it will be fixed this year. Fingers crossed.
@RedHeadedMommy Registration opened at 10 am last year. The system was down almost immediately due to “technical issues.” Problems were resolved by 5:42 pm. You can follow the story via the Texas '19 Twitter account (@UTAustin2019) posts on March 4, 2015.
The challenge was that many students were prepared to register at 10 am. Then the system was down with no clue when it would be available again. Many people couldn’t sit around all day waiting for registration to open at some unknown time. Some students ended up not getting their preferred orientation sessions because they weren’t available to register at 5:45 pm. I hope UT has fixed the issues so this won’t happen again…but I suggest you be prepared for anything!
Not sure if this was mentioned before or just understood but you MUST be enrolled at UT Austin to sign up for Orientation.
Just a heads up…don’t count on the “system” to be any different from last year. Just last week my DD had to go online to select a major and the system crashed and 3 min later when she was able to login in, her only 2 decent options were gone. To think that selecting a major at UT is like buying concert tickets is a little disconcerting. If you need a certain date for orientation you might want to clear your schedule just in case.
