Fall of 2020 UMD Transfer Students

To get a hold of anyone at admissions i called (301)314-8377. I would suggest to call early in the morning (around 10) because the lines get really busy in the afternoon.

My DS applied as a transfer for electrical engineering and got accepted to Letters and Sciences without any explanation. He sent them an email a couple of days ago and has tried to call but hasn’t been able to get through. He was not able to take chemistry at his previous school and that is one of the gateway classes for engineering. He needs to make some decisions by May 1. So I have 3 questions if someone could help us.

  1. Was this simply because he didn’t take chemistry or because he was on the cusp for being accepted to engineering?
  2. If it was just due to chemistry is it just a formality to transfer to EE once he takes it?
  3. Will he be allowed to take all the EE courses in the fall if he is in LTSC?
    Thank you

Congrats to your son! My son got in under the same conditions for Bioengineering. Chem 135, Math 140 and Phys 161 (equivalents) must be completed before acceptance into the major. He contacted them and they replied they are waiting for his second semester chem class transcript. After they receive that, they will contact the Engineering Department to hopefully fully admit him to his major. In reading the transfer requirements and pathways, it appears to be a formality along as you make the grades and take the prerequisite classes. He should be allowed to take the 100 level courses as they are freshman level courses where Physics 161 is taken in the Spring of freshman year and before all prereq’s are met. If he’s completed all the Math and Physics and only needs Chem, then he may need to petition to take any 200 level courses. Have you looked at the academic plan for EE?

This gives a good idea of what classes he will need to take and what he has already fulfilled.

Hey I just got in! I’m so excited. How do we access the GroupMe?

The other schools he’s considering have accepted all his classes. UMD is more interesting. He took Physics 1 and 2 for engineers in a 2 course series, but at UMD its 3 semesters, so I hope they accept the first 2. Math shouldn’t be a problem. He emailed the transfer credit department today.

Have you gone to here to see what courses transfer?

https://app.transfercredit.umd.edu/

Maryland is a little different. Not all GE’s will transfer as they want you to take some at the school.

Yes, but it’s not accurate. Many of the course numbers aren’t correct.

How can we join the groupme?

@milkmaj how do we join the GroupMe?

Yeah how do we join the Group Me?

Did anyone’s priority application decision get deferred to the regular application decision date? Letter said July 29th at the latest

if you guys want, i can make a new groupme if the first one isn’t working out

@transferumd2020 It’s just so hard to share the link- CC will not let you do it and when it was posted it somewhere (reddit) we got a ton of trolls that we had to kick out

censored but I wrote rolls with a t

@RBevan Are you able to DM the link to others? Maybe that’s a way to do it.

@Whatrocks I tried that with someone else and sadly it didn’t work. The only thing I can think of is to have someone create a Fb page and post the link there?

Just dropping my stats here for future applicants. I just got my decision today because they were saying they didn’t receive all my docs by March 1st but it was a glitch on their part.
Accepted: Letters and Sciences: Major Government and Politics
GPA: 3.87
ECs: Was apart of a couple of clubs while at my CC but mainly just worked all 2 yrs and got an internship fall ‘19 that I am doing until summer of 2020 at a bipartisan polling and consulting firm so those two things consumed most of my time
Essays: I would say were a 7/10
I am an out of state applicant. Although I am excited I got in I won’t be attending. I am from California and just got into UCLA so that is where I will be transferring.
Congrats to everyone who got in so far and goodluck to future applicants!

I got accepted UMD. In fact, I received several acceptance letters from other schools, but I chose to go UMD as a math major because of my tuition(UC and private schools are expensive). See you there

Has anyone gotten anything in the mail from UMD? I got accepted April 17th and still nothing.

If you’re looking for the welcome letter that says you got in, you may have received an email version of that. I received mine on April 24th, admitted April 17th as well
