anyone know?

No, student income is separate. When they say “family” income, they really mean “parent” income.

Annual family income for a dependent student means the parent and student applicants taxable and untaxed income as derived from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For an independent student, annual family income includes the student applicants, and spouses, if married, taxable and untaxed income as derived from the FAFSA.

taken from the NJ Administrative Code, Title 9A Higher Education.

Don’t know if it varies state to state, but thought I’d share.
