^^^sorry not a boy band groupee. Now I know who he is, and he is truly talented.

Oh, I am not very tall. Husband’s clients (not saying who for obvious reasons) are very tall. Strange to turn around to meet someone and have one’s eye level below the belt buckle.

Wait, you grew up in Westchester as in Larchmont? Husband grew up there. FIL responsible for quite a few sightings. (He was in the business). Husband never knew who would be in the den after school.

ellebud, That’s funny about the tall stuff. I’m used to it . Husband, sons, brother in-law and nephew all range from 6’5-6’11." No money in it unfortunately but at least it got nephew into the Ivy League!

H was in the elevator of a fancy hotel in Chicago, escorting a bride-to-be from floor to floor immediately before the wedding ceremony. Onto the elevator enters…Joan Rivers.

Joan was excited/delighted to see a bride, gushed appreciatively and managed to pull forward the bride’s left hand to study her engagement ring. Long silence.

“You’ve done well, my dear!” said Joan, who then exited onto a different floor.

My H, who is watching golf on TV, just casually said to me, “oh, did I tell you I met Arnold Schwarzenegger this week?” He is less impressed with celebrity than anyone I know. Arnold was in H’s offices while in town for a speaking engagement. Wayne Gretzky was also with him, but my H has met him on several occasions so that was less of a surprise.

Oh my, I would have asked him to sing! One of my favorites. :)

alwaysamom, That is not surprising that your husband is not that impressed. He obviously runs in these kinds of circles. It’s usually those of us that don’t have everyday access to running into famous people that it is no doubt more exciting to! I’ll bet scientists would go nuts over meeting prominent scientists, historians meeting famous historians, writers meeting famous writers, etc. For most of us, meeting or running into a famous person unexpectantly can be cool. Who knows, there may even be someone your husband would be in awe of meeting(maybe childhood idol, for instance).

Ellebud, I grew up in New Rochelle, a city in Westchester County.
I now live in a city in Fairfield County and wish I could say that I almost met Robert DeNiro. He was here around 2008 shooting a movie and I worked as a cashier at that time at a Stop & Shop pretty close to the set. His ‘guys’ stopped by and bought about $200 worth of steak. They looked pretty

Years ago, I took my then very young D and her BFF to see Grease starring Brooke Shields. We stood outside stage door in cold weather. The girls were determined to get her autograph. They stood directly behind the rope; I waited for them a few feet away.

Out of the stage door came Donald Trump (way before he was on TV) with then fiancee or wife Marla Maples. It was comical; they exited with plastic smiles, walking slowing, expecting everyone to be thrilled by seeing them. Nobody was.

Finally, after an hour, Brooke Shields came out. She walked very quickly down the line…right past the girls, who were too awe struck to say a single word…towards her waiting limo. The paparazzi were screaming “Brooke! Brooke!” I yelled "Ms. Shields, Ms. Shields, please Ms. Shields! " I’m sure I didn’t sound like one of the paparazzi. Brooke Shields stopped just before she got into the limo;she swiveled and looked straight at me. " I yelled something like “Ms. Shields, please sign the posters of the young girls in the front row!” and pointed at my D and BFF. She walked a few feet back and spotted my D and BFF who were completed tongue tied. She signed their posters. My D was thrilled but so awe struck she was completely frozen. I yelled again “What do…” And my D said “Oh, yes, sorry, thank you so much!” Brooke Shields looked back at me and gave me a megawatt smile and then raced to her limo.

I’d never been a fan before, but after that I was.

I love that when Joan Rivers saw the stone Kevin Costner gave to his young, pretty fiancee, she was so totally not impressed that Costner went out and bought his bride a better rock. Now that’s power!

My DH knew a vice president’s son really, really well and they would ride their dirt bikes at the Naval Observatory (the Veep’s house in Washington).

I lived in an area in Detroit where a large group of Motown artists lived. Marvin Gaye lived down the street from me. He’d wave when he drove down the street. I went to Jr high with the son of Levi Stubbs (Four Tops).

My uncle was friends with Barry Gordy, so we went to a few functions at the Gordy mansion. The best, though, was walking home from school and a limo pulls up in front of Marvin Gaye’s house. The Jackson 5 got out of the limo!!! /swoon

I was a diver in high school and college, so it was a big deal for me to go watch Greg Louganis in person diving in a meet near my home when I was about 15. As my friend and I approached the pool venue, we saw a lone figure sitting on a concrete slab tucked into the side of the building. We then walked right by a 17-yr old Greg Louganis, smoking a cigarette prior to the competition. My bubble was burst.

When I was a young associate at a law firm in NYC, there were law school recruits constantly coming in for interviews with partners and lunches with older associates. As I stumbled onto a full elevator with my hair askew and glasses in place of contacts for my tired eyes, arms full of papers, looking every bit the overworked young lawyer, I saw a friend obviously on his way to a lunch with one such recruit. We chatted briefly and I asked where they were lunching, and I made a bad joke about the quality of the restaurant and my opinion that the food sucked and the waitstaff were terrible. A few hours later, my friend popped into my office and laughingly asked, “don’t you know who that was I was taking to lunch?” Nope, I didn’t recognize JFK Jr.

My uncle was friends with Barry Gordy, so we went to a few functions at the Gordy mansion. The best, though, was walking home from school and a limo pulls up in front of Marvin Gaye’s house. The Jackson 5 got out of the limo!!! /swoon

emeraldkity, I went to college for 4 years with Jack Sikma. Of course, everyone knew who he was and I saw him frequently on our small campus. Never had a class with him–jocks and theater majors don’t usually take the same classes. The only time I can remember speaking to him was when we were both in a group named outstanding seniors and were at a dinner together.

Speaking of Kennedys, a good friend wrote a historical biography and had a meeting with Jackie when she worked as an editor. They didn’t publish the book.

I was walking across the Capitol grounds and saw a bunch of TV cameras. As I went closer Ted Kennedy was giving a press conference. It must have been on a health issue because there was an actress named Barbara Barrie who I knew was a cancer survivor. I was about 25-30 feet away and thought it would make a good souvenir photo. I stepped up on a bench to get a better vantage point. I was dressed entirely in red and he must have caught sight of me. In the photo, he is looking directly at me and smiling.

Gee, for someone who has always lived in hick towns in the midwest, I’ve had a lot of celebrity encounters!

emeraldkity, I went to college for 4 years with Jack Sikma.
My family wasn’t interested in sports growing up- but I got to see a few games when Lenny Wilkens coached the Sonics. Basketball was much different then.
I had the impression that it was a team- not a lot of superstars.

( Lenny Wilkens did live kinda by me for a while, but I only saw him maybe once or twice driving around.)

My oldest was in school with Steve Hawes son ( also NBA player)- they were very nice- ( and his wife was tall too.)

Oh and the sister of a friend was married (for a while) to Bill Russell.

I bonked Pat Paulson on the head with the overhead bin door. I made brief eye contact and immediatedly realized that I denied USA a future President, if he chose to run a second time.

Totally forgot to add this until I saw the babysitting post above…I used to babysit for Marisa Tomei back when we both lived in an apartment house in Brooklyn. I babysat for her from when she was about 4 until she was about 10 or so. She was adorable, bright, vivacious, creative and quite articulate. Her father was a lawyer and her mother an English teacher. I almost got to go to Europe with them one summer as a mother’s helper, but my mother said no. :(

We lived in an area where we often see people on vacation. I always think they are someone local whose name I have forgotten. Tea Leone getting coffee at the market and I couldn’t quite place her…Tiffany Amber Thiessen came into my work and again I couldnt place her…David Crosby lives nearby among several other well know people. I once let him know that it was my turn at the deli and another time saw someone who wasn’t local staring so badly in a restaurant that she walked into a post!
the best was when my DH was seated in front of Bo Derek on a small local plane. On the way off the plane he pinched my rear end. I told him he was the only man on the planet who would do that…turns out he hadn’t noticed her and had no clue who she was.
