"Famous people I almost met"

We lived in an area where we often see people on vacation. I always think they are someone local whose name I have forgotten. Tea Leone getting coffee at the market and I couldn’t quite place her…Tiffany Amber Thiessen came into my work and again I couldnt place her

gah- I do that too.
I have face blindness with people I know casually which doesn’t help when I cant remember their name either.
I might start talking to someone that I vaguely recognize because I am assuming they will think I am rude if I don’t, & then hope that their name will * come to me*.
Later I realize they looked familar because it was John Ratzenberger or Alan Arkin( but his dad I would know).
:o

When my family took a trip to NYC we walked by Nate Berkus. He was going the opposite direction but my mom still freaked out about it.

When I went to see Conan O’Brien on tour this summer, Senator Al Franken was two rows behind me. He was getting a lot of requests to take pictures. He was there to see the guy who wrote for him - Conan.

Do we get to count famous people that we have met?

I knew Kevin Costner when I was in my college years (My college-BF was in his frat and I became a Chi Delphia (lil sis) to the frat…so…lol…I’ve actually have kissed him (platonically). ). I went on a skiing vacation with him (still have the pics) and also got to go to his first wedding to Cindy (still have the stuff from that in a scrap book). Frankly, I’ve never forgiven him for what he did to Cindy…a very nice girl.

BTW…that wedding was the first wedding I had ever been to where the groom (Kevin) cried during the whole thing. He started crying when Cindy came down the aisle and hardly stopped. Not criticizing Kevin, my H cried during our vows.

My SiL was flying with her baby and Loretta Swit (from MASH) was on the plane. She wanted to hold my niece. So my SIL has a pic of Ms. Swit holding my niece.

My parents have a pic of them with Vanna White…LOL…My dad adored Vanna!!

One of my close friends was struggling with packages while carrying an infant carrier. Bill Murray saw her struggling and helped her to her car! What a nice man!

We’ve seen stars a few times walking around at Disneyland and Disneyworld…but I guess everyone has.

M2CK- hmmm, an old friend of mine was in Costner’s frat, I think I know what school you attended, especially since I went there, too!

^^^

My boyfriend went there. I graduated from another college. I should have been more clear in my post. :)

My husband and I were at a new kindergarten students parents party at my daughter’s school when I noticed a very good-looking guy walking past. I told my husband, “I wonder if that guy knows he looks like Kevin Costner.” He replied, “It is Costner, I checked out his name tag!”. In high school, DD’s classmates included the daughters of Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager - nice guy) and Gale Anne Hurd/Brian DePalma (yikes on all 3).

DH and I are big space program fans. At one conference, DH came out of the men’s room white as a sheet. He was next to Mike Collins (Apollo 11 astronaut) at the urinal. At another conference, Bonnie Dunbar (one of the original female American astronauts) spilled a Diet Coke on him. He kept the can ;).

Donald Sutherland…many times at the airport. It happened that he often took the same Air Canada flight as my D did (who flew to the same city about 4 times a year). He was always escorted through the gate first on the outgoing flight, or was met by his driver on the incoming flight. (This was when I was allowed to go past security with a gate pass since my D was an unaccompanied minor). After several flights on the same plane, he began to recognize my D, and would smile at her. Once when D was standing right beside him in the aisle when he was seated in first class, and she smiled at him, she said he was about to say something, but he sneezed into his newspaper. By the time he recovered, D had moved on.
He exuded a lot of presence, and always wore a trenchcoat. In baggage, people would sometimes approach him, and he was very gracious.

Genevieve Bujold (Canadian actress). Same gate as we were both waiting for the incoming flight which was somewhat delayed. We were standing next to each other. She looked familiar. I spoke up and stupidly said, you look so much like Genevieve Bujold. She said, well that’s because I am. We had a little chat.

Louie (cant remember his last name) the comedian, and a one time host for Family Feud.
Same gate. He was sitting alone on the side and obviously didn’t want to be recognized. Completely dressed in black with a black baseball cap pulled over his face.

David Hasselhoff. Same airport. We bumped into each other. He scowled. Ugh. Too bad it wasn’t George Clooney.

Michelle Pfeiffer and her husband…in a funky furniture store. We came face to face as she turned a corner. She’s tiny.

Anthony Quinn, when I was a kid and he vacationed at the same place in Hawaii. He admired my sandcastle.

As a kid, I was on the same plane as the Monkees. There was a raving cheering crowd as we disembarked. I felt so special.

I rode in a parade for Armed Forces Day with Vi Ripken (Cal’s mom). And I walked down the hall behind Cal at back-to-school night at DD’s school where Cal’s daughter was a student as well. He is huge!

^^^ When Cal Ripkin broke the consecutive games record, one of the things they gave him was a giant rock with “2131” carved in it (what else do you get a man who has everything?).

He had it put in his front yard.

He lives close to my mother, so once when I was visiting her I drove past his house and took a picture of it.

My MIL worked at the school Amy Carter attended in DC and sometimes substituted for the class she was in. The Secret Service sat in a car outside and one was in the school.

Saw quarterback Jim Plunkett at Bed, Bath and Beyond today.

It’s probably easier to recognize male celebrities when they’re out in public. Female stars can look soooo different without all the makeup, lashes, 'do’s, etc.

I met JFK Jr several times when we were both in college (different schools but nearby and lots of parties. He spent a summer teaching underprivileged kids in my hometown with one of the Shriver cousins…very small town so saw them both a lot then on a chatty basis but not what I would call friends) Still I cried my eyes out when his plane went down…I guess it struck me because we were both the same age…

Walked past Annette Bening in NYC on Friday. I had just seen her that morning on the Regis show-- same eyeglasses and hairstyle as earlier in the day.

DD saw the guy who played Luke on Gilmore Girls at a bar. DH and two sons saw one of the Glee cast members (I’m not sure I’d be correct if I tried to remember which one) at a restaurant. DS sat across from Alec Baldwin at a restaurant. DH sat near Jay Leno in a restaurant. Oh, and DS was actually on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno twice, once as a pilgrim on a Thanksgiving episode that featured his first-grade class and once interviewed by him when he came to his school and interviewed a small group of kids for another Thanksgiving episode. DS found him to be extremely nice and fun.

Oh, and if anyone remembers the TV show Knots Landing – pretty much the entire cast. The show was filmed in our neighborhood. The show weirdly interfaced with our real life. Scenes filmed at the preschool my kids went to, the market we shopped at, the streets we walked and drove on and even the scenes filmed in yards and houses we could see from our back yard. In fact, our own house could be seen from aerial views, etc.

Used to manage a store in suburban Detroit where Jack Kevorkian, Elmore Leonard, Bob Seger’s hot ex-wife, and Yasmine Bleeth (married to a local) were frequent customers. I got on a first-name basis with Dr. Jack, gave him a ride home once, and he gave me his cell number so we could do lunch (never did). Leonard’s daughter once left a manuscript of an unpublished novel of his in the store. Bleeth turned zero heads when she was in there…the ravages of cocaine. You could tell Seger’s ex was hot from 200 yards away.

I had Martin Luther King Jr.'s college and grad school roommate threaten me with a switchblade while managing another store for that company.

I was a grad student at Indiana U when they filmed Breaking Away. Got in a couple scenes as an extra. Lots of time mixing with then-unknown cast members like Daniel Stern, Dennis Quaid, Jackie Earl Haley, Hart Bochner, Robin Douglass, Paul Dooley, and the guy who played Taggert in Beverly Hills Cop. All were nice. Between shots, Douglass seemed to like to sit on the ground showing an almost obscene amount of skin and play board games with people.

Was in Navy while they filmed War and Remembrance, and am standing right behind Robert Mitchum in change of command ceremony at the beginning of the first episode. Mitchum was really nice.

When I went through the Defense Language Institute, Montel Williams was a fellow naval officer there.

Meryl Streep-September, 2009 in Paris, France. In fact, she was staying at the same hotel as spouse and I; assume she was with her husband, as the four of us waited on an elevator together in the hotel lobby. My Spouse, however, would not let me utter a word to her. It was all I could do to keep my mouth shut! She was in Paris accepting an award for the Julia Child movie. Absolutely made our trip…even if spouse made me keep silent.

My grandmother taught Barbara Walters for 5th grade. She said she was a very intelligent fifth grader.

One day my little brother came home to say they had an assembly and “some lady sang really high and we had to cover our ears” Beverly Sills had a relative at the school and sang opera for the kids.
