I would like to choose industrial design for my major. Which university is famous for the major in Europe or USA?
This school is quite good – https://daap.uc.edu/academics/design/bs_industrial.html
Probably the most famous art school that also has industrial design is Rhode Island School of Design – or RISD – pronounced RIZ-dee
Also look at–
MIT
Carnegie Mellon
Pratt
Cooper Union
FIT in nyc has various kinds of design that other schools may not have, such as toy design, jewelry and the like.
Also check out schools such as –
Ringling
Savannah (SCAD)
Otis in Los Angeles
CalArts
U of Wisconsin at Stout has a packaging design school that’s quite good
I appreciate your answer! It was helpful to find my future university.
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has a great industrial design major. So does Georgia Tech.
University of Cincinnati
I see others have recommended University of Cincinnati, which is a great school for industrial design., I will add that it is known for its co op program, which gives you paid work experience as a student.
RIT, which is also coop.
Thank you guys for replying
Purdue is good too https://cla.purdue.edu/students/academics/majors/idpp.html
and Georgia Tech http://catalog.gatech.edu/programs/industrial-design-bs/
and RIT as already suggested
Also UIUC, Ohio State, Auburn, NC State, UW-Seattle, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, & Iowa State
In California, San Jose State, San Francisco State, and Cal State Long Beach both have industrial design programs.
As others have said, Cincinnati is particularly good, especially if you have a particular interest in automotive/transportation design.
You can broaden the field by also looking at Product Design programs. U of Oregon’s program is good. And Drexel.
Carnegie Mellon’s design program has an interdisciplinary core before you can specialize. U of Utah’s Interdisciplinary Design program is another to look at in this vein.
Following up on the Cincinnati school – it’s good because of the car/ transportation design but people come out of Cincinnati with the chops (skill set) to do other sorts of design – even things as far flung as design of futuristic sets for sci-fi movies.
