call the USC financial aid office now. with the short description of your financial situation, the efc doesn’t make too much sense. my parents had an income of 90000 yet our EFC was significantly less than that.

It makes me wonder if USC didn’t give away so many "scholarships’ then they could lower the cost of tuition for everyone else. Why should so many students get full or half tuition scholarships and the rest pay full price?

Okay, I’ve had all my documents submitted for a while now and I’ve been waiting for my award to show up on usconnect. I checked it today and this showed up in required documents: “3rd Party Letter Re: Non-Custodial Parent”. I didn’t receive any email or info about this. Anyone know what this is about? I had to send in my parents’ entire divorce settlement, child support documents, a letter from my father (my custodial parent) explaining my mother’s lack of child support/tuition assistance. Is USC asking for a third party to write about my non custodial parent’s lack of child support (for example, confirming that my dad’s letter is true)? I’m a little lost. haha.

Yes. I had to get a letter from a third party confirming that I did not receive child support from my daighter’s father.

Hi, everyone. I am an international student who was admitted by USC class of 2016. I am wondering if I can still apply any type of financial aid now. The total fee of USC is so high that I have to get enough money from financial aid…

Okay, I have the letter ready to submit. Now, I’ve run into another problem. I somehow lost my usconnect password and I can’t log in! I requested a new password twice and haven’t received any emails. Tried calling the number it listed and have had no luck. What should I do?! This process has been so drawn out, I just want to be done with it!!

Alright, thankfully they fixed the problem! Now I have to wait for them to process my document…
marklrh - I’m not the best one to answer your question, but I’ll try. I think you can still apply for financial aid, but do it now! And I don’t think you will get the best award. But they might at least review your aid application after they finish up awards for those who met the deadline. I say it’s worth a shot!

I know this is probably somewhere in this forum, but somebody help me out-- How exactly do you file an OFFICIAL appeal for financial aid? USC didn’t give me nearly enough money to attend, and I sent them a letter detailing why I can’t afford to go without more money, but when we called them up about it they said it doesn’t count because it wasn’t an OFFICIAL appeal. Whatever that means. I can’t find any information about this on their website, and time is running out! Any advice? Thanks!

I am not an expert. But when you go to USConnect, click on Financial Aid, click on Documents, then the Document Library there is an option for Appeal Expected Contribution. You might want to try opening that option and checking it out.

I submitted my fasfa before the deadline but didn’t realize all the other things I had to send. Is it too late to do this and receive financial aid?

We still haven’t received our financial aid info - all info submitted by us on time, they asked for additional info and I worked my tail off to get it all to them within 1 day. All has been received and they don’t need anything else. That was over 3 weeks ago! We are feeling like we are in limbo land as we can’t make a decision until we know if it’s even financially feasible. Any advice? I have emailed them and I got the stock answer…

I would call the financial aid office. I called today and got some updated info. they said my package is halfway determined/completed and it should be done in 5 days (but probably sooner). so I would go ahead and call them, because that at least eased my fears of my package not being done in time to make a decision!

Thank you, Mynemezzo, will do tomorrow!

Ok, I went through all 1013 posts on this thread and still have some basic questions.

D received a Presidential Scholarship. In early April, her USConnect FA was updated shoeing the Pres. and an extra $2,000 University Scholarship, plus UnSub loans. Our EFC is high so I’m not too surprised. Today she received a letter in the mail from Viterbi saying she’s been awarded a $2500 Engineering Merit Scholarship.

So my questions: does the Engineering Merit Scholarship replace the University Scholarship? And do these scholarships require the CSS/Profile to filed each year?

It looks to me, from the last 1013 posts, that “scholarships” are merit aid and “grants” are need based aid. We will definitely be in the “scrimp and save” group if D decides to attend USC!

Oops, that should have said “showing”, not “shoeing”.

Congrats to all who have received merit awards! Great job by the students & their families who have supported their accomplishments. 2girlzmum, our S got Presidential + Viterbi. He & we NEVER submitted any financial docs as his awards were all pure merit awards. No loans were ever obtained. Do not know anything about any university scholarships & would try to get clarification about whether those are merit or FAid-based & whether she can keep BOTH the University + Viterbi scholarships. Sorry I don’t have the answer to this.

One great thing about the merit awards is that as long as you maintain a 3.0 and make “satisfactory progress” toward your degree, the awards are renewable every spring for 4 years–without financial paperwork at all; your child needs to complete the form every spring by the deadline.

^^^I called FA and they said that she can have bother scholarships. They also added the Viterbi scholarship onto her USConnect account, without taking away the University Scholarship.
So, how involved is the form that they have to fill out in the spring?

^^ If you are talking about the letter that comes in the mail regarding the scholarships, it was a 1 or 2 page letter. Basically you checked that you wanted to receive the merit scholarships and signed it. Then sent it back! Easiest part of the process by far.

Hi I need some information.

First of all, my tuition will be fully covered by USC thanks to my father being a University employee. What is left for me to pay are the fees, room and board, and books. I thought there was no doubt that I would be dorming, however my parents find it hard to pay the $15000 because we just bought a house and etc. Also I don’t qualify for FAFSA stuff or CalGrants since I’m slightly above the limit.

I guess my question is are there other types of grants I can get that give me money? I know scholarships are obvious, but so far I have been denied for those which applied for. Also, do still qualify for work study? It says i must demonstrate great financial need, and I think I’m portrayed as a student that is not.

I really want to dorm. Though I don’t think making friends will be too difficult for me, the hour commute everyday seems overwhelming along with other stuff i plan to do.
Thanks!

is it normal for USC not to include the pell grant you’ve recieved from other schools?
